DP Goes to PhillyClassic 4

Photographs taken by Daniel Bienvenu

March 28-30: The DP staff and many members from the DP Forums (Retrogaming Roundtable) took a short trip to a central location in King of Prussia, PA. We noted the sign on the door, "PhillyClassic", and realized we must have been in the wrong place. But before we went to the Philly show we decided to check out this "KingOfPrussiaClassic". Turns out, we never left.

Ah yes, PhillyClassic. Where tables upon tables upon tables of treasures await and someone wearing a Digital Press t-shirt is around every corner. Early in the show I was stripping for extra cash to buy stuff. Notice the extreme distance kept by the show's guests. While the Atari Age guys were away, I swiped a few of their goodies. For the rest of the show most of these TV's were airing old "A-Team" episodes instead of tasty new games. BWAHAHAHAH!
The full Canadian contingent is always around for this Philly show, guaranteeing at least a few unusual items. Victims were in plentiful supply for this blue creature, waiting patiently with its body bag to lunch on its unsuspecting prey. Remember that girl from the movie TRON, and remember thinking "damn I'll bet she's hot"? Of course you do.
Sean re-arranges the items at the DP table in alphabetic order. Some BASTARD has put "K" before "J"! The coolest game of the show, on the smallest monitor at the show. This is big-time, folks.
"If you don't stop staring at my chest I will throw my 'Chop of Extra Power'", says Cindy Morgan of TRON fame. Security was beefed up this year what with the war, terrorism, and the Death Star being built and all. In this precursor to "Morgan vs. Trooper 3", Morgan trash talks her way to an early advantage.
All kinds of cool stuff at PhillyClassic. New games announced, like this Atari 2600 title "Entity"... New (but future classic) systems like Xbox and GameCube just sitting there waiting for someone to play... Piles of exclusives at every turn. This show performs a "cash-ectomy" on me every year.
Santulli amazes the show patrons by pulling circus animals out of his beard. Soylent Green is people! Mike Mize wonders why he has not yet sold this electronic Etch-a-Sketch unit, then realizes that Russ Perry Jr. is not in attendance.
Yes, it's the PEOPLE that make PhillyClassic so much fun.
The only person who did NOT vote for the cute girl in the blue costume was beaten senseless by the man in the next picture. You can only imagine the horror. At Digital Press, our motto is "We are Growing Boys". To repeat this properly you must also slur your words.
I honestly forgot why this particular group is sitting here, but there were several webcasts recorded for "Back in Time". That's Joe "SCSI-cide" Grand in red, Ed "videogames.net" waving, and Bob "how did I get myself into this" Polaro between them. ColecoVision professor Will Berdan's table. How this young man got himself into this predicament is beyond us, but 8 jars of vaseline later, he was just fine again.
You're always guaranteed some kind of exclusive if you attend the show, like Atari2600.com's Stunt Cycle. And you're always guaranteed to get a hands-on experience of stuff that you never thought you'd see. I mean, there aren't many places where you're going to find a Dina 2-in-1 sitting next to a Dreamcast.
Yes, this was another attempt to photograph Cindy Morgan's breasts. Let's try another angle. Dammit! Cindy Morgan wasn't the only person playing arcade games. After several hours studying the rules, these fellows got down to it.
Sexy and probably under seventeen, ya pervs. PS I see a stocking! Heh heh heh... "Touch Me" I always get a kick out of the Commodore SX-64. This is what they used to call "portable".
Albert Yarusso wonders "now where did I leave that cash box?". Moments later, a major purchase is made by a consortium of Digital Press associates. Alan Hewston hand-crafted these murals. Insert head, snap away. The characters could be placed anywhere on the canvas. Sweet.
The show was a great time but a bit on the long side, especially for vendors. Here we see a few of them passing the time in interesting and creative ways.
