I never stack my systems. Thats what a good entertainment stand/holder is for. If you lack the space for one of those with multiple compartments/shelves then you can just take that as a sign that you probably only need a few consoles hooked up at a time, whatever you are currently playing most. I can hold 10 different consoles in my entertainment center but as a rule try to never have more than 5 consoles hooked up at a time. Because realistically I won't be playing all my systems every single month.

I only stack a couple consoles. The Dreamcast is on top of my NES, and the old modded PS1 is on top of my US PS2 ( though I have a JP PS2 that will replace that PS1 once I get it repaired). Beyond that I'm good. I like to take weight and heat concerns into consideration before stacking machines.

I have stacked hardware, no problem. Saturn seats itself on the 3DO, CDI is crunched by a VCR, etc. I wouldn't do it unless the system exteriors are tough enough to handle the weight, but the majority are.

I have my Wii on top of my 360 and my PS1 on top of my PS2. I've never had any problems, but I also don't leave them on all the time.

Front loaders are great machines to stack on.
