Found and Lost Column Update

Part ONE of our Genesis Double Feature today! If you’ve been collecting for any length of time, then you’ve probably accumulated a lot of cool stuff. Stuff you love. Stuff you treasure. Stuff you never touch. You know how it is: you acquire something, you’re excited about it at first, but eventually you put the item away and promptly forget about it. In other words, what once was found has now become lost (get it?). Found & Lost is all about delving into your collection, dusting off your favorites, finally firing up those untried games you’ve had for years, admiring the gaming memorabilia you’ve acquired, remembering why you wanted all this stuff in the first place. Check out William Cassidy's recent insights in this new edition of his column, right here at Digital Press.

DP Online Games Database Rolls On

Our online database of 36,408 videogame-related items continues to grow in new directions. Of late we've been focusing on some very obscure game systems and their libraries. Tonight we added complete listings for the Gakken Console Vision (TV Boy), the Casio PV-1000 and the PV-2000 computer, the Bandai RX-78 Gundam, and the TV Jack 5000. Just a few days ago we added the Tapwave Zodiac. Don't own any of these systems? That's OK... but know that we're highly committed to documenting every game system ever, so if you ever do, you know where to come back to research. As always, this stuff is available to add to your own personal collection lists as well. And just wait! We've got some great surprises right around the corner.

MSX Emulator Comparison

Today the MSX Resource Center (www.msx.org) published the results of an MSX emulator comparison. Twelve MSX emulators have been put to the test. The relatively new emulator BlueMSX 2.1 ranks first, followed closely by the open source initiative openMSX 0.5.0. The performance of several MSX emulators proved emulating a 20 year old computer system is a lot harder than it seems. Many classic videogames that played a key role in the history of gaming were released on the MSX platform in the past. MSX emulation makes it possible to enjoy these games like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and Vampire Killer (Castlevania) on any modern PC. This Emulator Comparison is the second edition of the first emulator comparison ever.

The Return of Commodore

BBC News reports that the sale of Commodore to a US company is imminent. Current owner Tulip Computers (who hasn't really done much with the name since they acquired it in 1994) appears to be selling for 17 million pounds to Yeahronimo Media Ventures (yeah, that doesn't sound like a US company to us either). What's in store for Commodore in 2005? We're eager to find out.

Is Nintendo Playing It Safe?

Check out this extensive column at n-sider.com. "Nintendo is not in the dominant position it was ten years ago, nor is it defining any new generations. It continues to create some of the best games on the market, but mainly designs those games for its own niche audience – an audience that seems to grow less diverse with each passing year."

The C64 DTV is a plug & play device (similar to the great Jakks Pacific units that are more commonly found in these parts) that plays classic C64 games right off of a chip in the unit.
200+ Sega Genesis Advertisements Online

It's been a busy day here at DP HQ. After digging through a pile of old Sega Visions magazines, we've scanned in over a hundred new Sega Genesis advertisements for the advert gallery. These join the existing 100+ for nearly 300 pages of ads in all. It's great stuff to skim through and check out the ones you're interested in.
Sony PS2 Game List Now In DP Database

Remember... it doesn't have to be OLD to be CLASSIC! The DP database breaks 30,000 titles with this weekend's edition of the PS2 list/guide. This list is far from perfect but we've got our gang tweaking and researching as you read this. Over time we'll add images, rarity ratings, descriptions, and reviews to bring this new section up to speed. Until then, we could use your eyes to spot errors or omissions in the base list, it was quite an undertaking!
