The EPROM-based prototype cartridge is apparently now owned by Bas Kornalijnslijper. It's not yet known if Kornalijnslijper plans to dump the game's ROM. 10/10 GamerDad talks Pac Man:  "I fell in love with the game the first time I played Pac-Man in that Kroger grocery store. What amazed me first about it was that it was all in color. And what vibrant color it was! A neon blue maze, candy colored ghosts, and bright yellow Pac-Man himself. A far cry from a few black and white lines and a ball. I also liked that you could move in four directions instead of just two, like in Pong. And all the way home I couldn’t stop talking about those crazy sound effects, the now familiar sound of Pac-Man eating dots (wakka wakka wakka), or the funny way Pac-Man died when you hit a ghost." Read this entertaining piece of nostalgia at one of our favorite sites, HERE.

Our bandwidth went right through the roof and even though we can't technically be "shut down" (we own our own servers) we have thresholds - so the site may have seemed down but was actually moving in slow-motion all day. 01/28 2002 Was Record-Breaking Year for Video Game Sales: According to sales figures from The NPD Group, the total U.S. retail market for videogame hardware, software and accessories grew to approximately $10.3 billion in 2002. The figure represents growth of about 10 percent over 2001’s total of $9.4 billion. Software sales were up across the board, gaining 21 percent in dollar volume and 15 percent in unit volume for 2002. Hardware sales declined four percent in revenue, posting an estimated $3.5 billion in sales versus $3.7 billion in 2001. Hardware did gain 10 percent in unit volume however. The dip in hardware revenues was obviously affected by the price drops on all three major next generation videogame systems. The lower price also contributed to the increased unit volume. The console and portable accessories category realized growth of nine percent dollar wise in 2002. NPD also noted that online-enabled console games represented 15 percent of next generation software dollars in 2002. Richard Ow, senior account executive for NPD looked ahead to next year, “In 2003, the video game industry should expect unit volume growth to outpace dollar volume growth in the hardware category.” He added, “Dollar volume will struggle for continued growth throughout 2003. The majority of the growth will come primarily from software sales, capitalizing on the hardware sold to date.” (GameDaily)
