HIGH ROLLERS (c) 1987 Box Office ------------------------------------------------ CONTROL KEYS --------------- Z or X : Player 1 ready to answer question > or / : Player 2 ready to answer question <-- : Return to main menu (left arrow in upper left corner of keyboard) MENU OPTIONS -------------- There are six options available from the main menu. They are New Match, Instructions, Load Question File, See High Scores, Return to Play and Quit. At most any point in the game you may return to the menu by pressing the <-- (back arrow) key. NEW MATCH - Start a new match. You may keep existing players (if you have finished a match) or get new players. LOAD QUESTION FILE - Used to load a file when starting a new match or to load a new file. When you start a new match you are sent to this option automatically. If you use up all questions in file while playing, you will be returned to the menu to load another. Thre are 3 question files on the disk. Additional question files can be generated - see below. RETURN TO GAME - Is used to return to a game in progress from the menu. QUIT - Always exit a game through the QUIT option if you want the high scores to be saved. BASIC GAME OPERATION ----------------------- For each roll of the dice a question must be answered. The first player to press his/her key has a chance to answer the question. If the first player to hit their key answers correctly, then they have control of the dice and may decide whether to roll or pass to the other player. If a player answers a question incorrectly, then control of the dice passes to the opposing player. THE OBJECT OF THE GAME ---------------------- The object of the game is to clear the columns of numbers thus winning the money total at the bottom of the column (if you win the game). In order to take numbers off the board you must answer a question correctly or be passed the dice. You roll the dice trying not to roll a total that doesn't equal some combination of the numbers remaining on the board. For example, if there are only three numbers left on the board it is probably a good idea to pass the dice since there are quite a few illegal rolls. For every DOUBLE you roll, you get an insurance marker which allows you a free roll if you roll a bad number. You can take off 1, 2, 3 or 4 numbers from the board at one time. ONE PLAYER GAME ------------------ In the ONE PLAYER GAME, you compete against the computer. In novice mode the computer responds incorrectly to questions more often and gives the human player more time to answer. TWO PLAYER GAME ----------------- The TWO PLAYER VERSION of the game is very much like the actual HIGH ROLLERS T.V. SHOW. The Play follows the same format as the ONE PLAYER VERSION. BONUS ROUND -------------- The Idea of the BONUS ROUND is to clear all of the numbers off of the board, without rolling an illegal combination (without an insurance marker). If a PLAYER clears the bonus board, he/she gets an additional $10,000!! If the board is not cleared the player receives $100 for each number removed. **************************************************** Creating New High Rollers Question Files ---------------------------------------- The disk contains three Question Files. New files can be created using the sequential file reader included on the disk. Question filenames must begin with the prefix "QUEST.". That leaves up to 10 remaining characters for a Commodore disk filename. Question files must be SEQUENTIAL (SEQ) files, and contain no extraneous control or other characters. Each file may contain up to 16,000 bytes (or characters). This translates into roughly 62 disk file blocks. The questions can be a maximum of 6 screen lines. This gives a total of 240 characters. Of this 240, each possible answer takes up one line or 40 characters. Since most questions have 3 answers this leaves 3 lines or 120 characters for the question itself. The actual question should be typed in with proper spacing, they will appear on screen as typed. So make sure to space properly for a 40 column line. Answers will be printed one per line. The correct answer is indicated by a lowercase letter (a,b or c) immediately preceding the question. It is not separated from the question in any manner. It must be first! A colon (:) is used to separate the question from the answers and between answers. A carriage return is used to separate the questions. Therefore, enter a colon only to separate answers, not for punctuation. Type a return only to separate questions.
