Default Sega PICO System anyone play it?

Has anyone played around with a PICO system? I may be picking one up with about 8 games and I have no idea if it is any good. I am thinking my 4 year old and possibly 1 1/2 year old may enjoy their own game system.

Impressions?

Funny that you bring that up. I was lookin around on Ebay yesterday and came across that system. That was the first time I've seen one, or heard of it. I guess its safe to say I never played one of those. Yeah people, is it any good?

If anyone on this forum DARES purchase a Pico for $50 I will personally come over there and hit you over the head with Lady Jaye's Burgertime manual!

Impressions? It's hard to explain it. The problem is that all of the games are for kids so the graphics are intentionally non-detailed. The three games I saw (I think Lion King was the best of them) had "Genesis-like" graphics in terms of resolution, think along the lines of Sega Club titles but really much less detailed.

If you're looking for one to play, forget it. Then again, there are people here who love Game.com so what do I know.

If yo'ure looking for collectibility purposes... well, it's getting there, but the console is the easiest thing to find.

NOTE: we have the list for this system online as well. Check http://www.digitpress.com/lists.htm

My 6 year old brother really liked it, so I'm sure your 4 your old kidd will enjoy it as well.

Don't get it for yourself though, it really is stuff for small children.

I always wanted to find one dirt cheap, but it never happened.

So, how long do you think it will be before the homebrewers go at it? ;-) Maybe port Gimp, or something completely unrealistic like that...

I saw one at a SA for like $25 , but I figured it wasn't worth it. It's just a Kiddie Genesis.

I passed up a system only (with one game) at goodwill yesterday for $1.99

If and or when I get one I will find one complete in box with all the games and never ever open the stupid thing. Kinda like the InteractiveVision.

It's actually a pretty neat little system but definately kids only. I picked one up for my daughter and she loves it. Most of the titles are Disney which is right up her alley.

I've got 3 of them right now but only one is complete. The other two are missing the handle, the drawing pad, av cable and power supply.

Here's a website that still sells replacement parts for it. no handles though.

http://www.sega-parts.com/products/pico-prices.htm

Some Toys R Us's still sell games for it (well in MI anyway)

and hey, I like the game.com

I got mine boxed with game for $15CDN ($9USD). My kids play it sometimes, but since it competes for hookups with the 25 other systems in the house, it only gets played occasionally. My 8 year olds find it beneath them (but they are used to dad's collection!), but the 6, 5 and 2 year olds like it.

I have it so I can trump other collectors.

"Well, do you have a PICO?!"

"Ummmmmm...."

I played with a Richard Scary title that was on display at Meijers. It was kind of neat in that everything in the on-screen town was interactive. Whatever you clicked on would react in some way instead of the static videogame backgrounds were used to. I was always curious as to what the Pico hardware really is. Is it a souped up SMS? Is it SMS compatible? Is it Genesis based? Is it a unique hardware configuration? Anyone know for sure?
