How do you store loose consoles?

I've been doing a lot of garage saling lately and I've managed to get almost all the consoles that I want. Most of them have been missing their box. I currently have several of them in cardboard boxes on a shelf in my closet. These are boxes I got from college that bookstore received textbooks in. They're big enough for a second console. I'm looking for storage options similar to those EB boxes they used for most of their consoles. Those are big enough for the console and controller. I can store the accessories somewhere else.

Order some large priority mail boxes from the post office and stick em in there.

If you have a Container Store in your area, check them out. All they deal in is plastic containers of various sizes. Go in armed with some sizes, and ask if they can accomodate those. Odds are they might have something. I've got some containers here I've been using for five years to store various odds and ends that I picked up from them.

The other option, if you can't find such a store in your area, would be to track down boxes meant for storing tall boots. But, to be honest, I'd avoid cardboard for storage, and go right to the plastic. At least with plastic, when the toilet next to the game room overflows, you won't suddenly be replacing your storage because it got waterlogged.

Do you have any names of common container stores?
For the accessories, I probably just use some cheap sterilite containers I can get from target. Now if I could find a way to store my games that makes better use of my space.

Stacked on top of each other in bins in the basement. I have various sega systems that are missing cords / dont work or have not been tested and have been piling up for several years.

Priority boxes do work rather well and come in a few different sizes. I ship systems in the flat rate boxes so those work nicely for smaller systems. Although, they are "provided solely for the use in sending priority mail. Misuse may be a violation of federal law!"

Stacking plastic cases are also nice since they can slide open from the front and do not require moving bins around to get at the bottom items.

As for storing games I prefer to display them on shelves.

I usually stack them up until I don't have anymore space. If that happens, I just put 'em somewhere on a shelf, floor, closet, etc.

Go to Wal-mart or Target the Contaners there are cheap

Rubber tubs. Waterproof, dustproof, airitght, opaque (non-transparent ones, anyway), stackable and durable.

Most Target stores have as much as one aisle devoted to Rubbermaid, Sterilite etc. of various dimensions.

What's not on display I keep in tubs in the garage, separating consoles from accessories. There is only one tub in my Room of Doom. I use it to hold extra controllers, lightguns, and hookups. Unlike the sealable ones in the garage it has a hinged two-part lid for easy access.

While you can get more precise sizes at the container store, I would go to wal mart or target-the container store is crazy overpriced.

If I want a bunch of boxes for individual console, I'll go with the post office boxes. Or I might go with some of those plastic containers from target. I would just have to put multiple consoles in a container since they don't make one the size that I want. I'm just trying to maximize the space on this shelf in my closet. Now if I could just find a box that I could store my SuperScope in.

I store a PS-One in a cigar box.

Store? Oh, under large piles of clothes, or around the parts in neat piles of circuitry, shells, and screws.

I store them in generic cardboard boxes. I try to mark the boxes based on the system in there, meaning I keep all of the Sega Genesis stuff in one box, the Atari 2600 stuff in another. You get the idea.

I also have a huge Misc. box which stores a bunch of systems, controllers, wires, manuals, boxes and even games that I may have recently picked up but haven't gotten around to sorting yet.

The plastic boxes, with the cover, sound like a very good idea, though. I should definitely consider it.

I wrap them in towels and then put them in a big plastic bin with a lid

I keep my saturn and dreamcast in art brush storage cases when I know I won't use them for awhile. They are plastic and have two sturdy clips to keep it closed. The consoles, controllers and plugs fit in well so I can still see what's inside while they're in the closet. A bit more expensive than Target containers, but helpful for me.

I've found that the copier paper boxes are the perfect size for my needs. I have several of them with the different systems labeled on the box.

Plastic containers would be better for the water damage aspect, but I haven't found a square plastic container of that size.

Store? Why would you wanna do that? I have all mine on display. They'd all be hooked up to the TV too, but I'm having RF adaptor issues (too many are causing really bad picture quality) I have room for my PS2 in vertical position, DC, SNES and Genesis on the bottom shelf of my tiny entertainment center, my Saturn to one side of my TV, my GC on the other, the XBox taking up one end of the desk next to my entertainment center and my N64 and NES in one of those plastic game carts under the desk.

This is probably the main reason why my console collection is on hiatus, because I have no more room for other consoles and I refuse to keep them in storage. (what's the point of having a collection if you can't enjoy it and show it off?) This is why I can't wait to finish college, get a REAL job and a place of my own where I can finally set up a gameroom. The scary thing is the sheer explosion when mine and my boyfriend's collections merge.

But man, if you can, show off your console collection on some nice sturdy shelves and make it a gaming gallery or something. Don't hide them in boxes in a closet. That's sad. Unless they're extras. But you should have at least one of each of your consoles out on display. Or at the very least in a big cabinet like an amoire or entertainment hutch or whatever with doors so you can open it up and go "whaaaa! look at my console collection" and then close it up when you don't wanna stare at electronics
