Default Do you collect PC games?

And do they "count", as far as you are concerned?

I have that Game Collector program, and I know how many games I have through that. But honestly, if I counted all of the PC games I have, it would be a lot higher. And honestly, quite a few of them are sort of rare. And there are some (like Baldur's Gate 2, Fallout series) that I like more than most console games!

I notice that I never really hear about collecting PC games around here. I think that it's possibly a pretty interesting thing to collect for, even though there would never be a "complete" set, obviously.

Do you guys count them? Why or why not? If you do, what are your centerpieces?

    I count some of them.

Diablo, Half-Life, Neverwinter Nights.... i'll count those.

"1000 mega shareware games" don't get counted.

No, no, and no. Although I play PC games often, I don't "collect them. What is the point. You can't play old PC games on a new PC. Mainly the old DOS games. You would have to keep an old ass PC laying around just to play the old games. Forget that. Nope, when they get to the point they can't be played anymore I toss them. I just don't get a thrill playind old PC games as I do playing old console games.

Only notable things. If I see say Earthworm Jim for windows 95 cheap I'll buy it just because it brings back memories, same if I were to see an old copy of day of the tentacle, little big adventure and a few others. I don't count them as part of my collection though.

I probably have 500+ PC games, I don't really count them, and I don't really collect them either. I get interested in silly little budget tiles and things like that a lot...I don't have too many PC games considered desirable...heck, very few of them even have their original cases and docs anymore.

Rollercoaster tycoon is awesome - I had that until I lent it to someone and he got so addicted to it that his girlfriend stamped on the cd to get some attention. :/

I have some old PC games, but I don't collect em. Pre-CD stuff is really, really hard to keep intact. Floppies die painful deaths rather easily...

Now can't you just have a DOS box to play those games?

We can't play River City Ransom (NES) on the current systems now? Is it any different?

I collect computer games almost as seriously as I do console games. I have a complete Infocom collection which is one of my pride and joys. I also have about 50 or so classic Sierra adventure games, Most of the Ultimas, Bards Tales, Wizardrys, and all other sorts of classics that I loved when I was growing up.

I also want to point out that when I say computer games I mean all formats. I have PC games, Apple II (my favorites), C64, Texas Instruments, Vic-20, Tandy, etc...

Computer games are just like console games when it comes to collecting. There's a lot of dirt common games that will never have any value at all other than sentimental value but there are definately some grails out there as well which demand good amounts of money.

Oh, and do I count my games? Hell yeah,

Glad to hear someone takes PC collecting seriously. What are some examples of the more pricey, rare PC games?

No. I don't like the huge amount of cheapo titles and those collections containing numerous games.

I just collect very specific things. I want to try to get all of FPS games released up to and including Quake 2. I also want to pick up all of the PC Star Wars games. I admit these goals are a little lower as far as my collecting priorities are set but I do want them.

I dont colect PC games, but my PC games do colect dust. The biggest differences to me between PC games and console games isnt so simple as a difference in age between the old system and the new.

1.If I get a NES game, I know it will work on my NES system no matter what moddle I have. If I have a toaster, it will work. If I have a top loader, it will work.

With PC, even if I have dos on my comp, that still is no promise it will work. Sometimes you need something from the manuel like a key or such to be able to install it. And that doesnt mean that your system meets the requirments.

2.much like the first, when I buy a new system, every game released for it untill stoped, will play on it. Its very different from the PC market where as the above states, there can be conflicts in hardware, software, and such.

3.Documentation/boxs. These things are simply so easy to store and colect for console games. PC games generaly come in large bulky boxs that take up more space then needed, have large/small manuels that are generaly useless, and more often then not, dispite their limited release, never retain any value on the second hand market.

4.Control interface. I was raised with controlers. A mouse and keybord, no matter how long used, still feel like a forign object to me. This is a personal reason, but how many others feel the same?

Yes, in a way. The only PC games I seek are from Japanese & Korean developers. Mostly ports of console or arcade games. With the exception of Nocturne & Clive Barker's Undying, US/Euro PC games (or console games for that matter) are of little to no interest to me.

Of course I count them. Almost half my collection is PC games. I don't see why they shouldn't count. They cost as much, they sell as well and they look as good.

And I've got a very good condition collection of boxed games. Some of which are disks. I would swap those for anything in the world!

i've got 345 pc games, but i don't really think of them as an important part of my collection because they don't have any more appeal than a lose gb game to me, at least anything newer than 1995, some old stuff is important to me, like my Magic Carpet Plus Eurobox or my Indiana Jones 4 5.25 Version in Eurobox

Afaik DosBox doesnt support all games. The best way to play old DOS games is to have dualboot with Win98 or set up a VM (virtual machine) with win98/DOS.
