Controller Storage

I'm sure a lot of us here have a ton of controllers that need to be kept in a somewhat organized fashion. I have a bin that holds all of them, with all the cords in the "Funco-Wrap" that I learned while working at GameStop (this completely keeps the cords from being tangled, which is really nice). But at times, I wonder if there's a better way. So my question is...

How do you store your controllers?

I usually just wrap the cord around the controller and keep it plugged into whatever system it goes to. That, or just throw them in a old plastic bag and them in a closet.

Get one of those plastic drawer bin things from Target and stuff it full. That's what I do. In my opinion games fit nice on shelves but controllers/accessories look awful. So throw 'em in a drawer and think "out of sight, out of mind".

I think you can get one a those of those plastic drawers with five 5" drawers. One for Nintendo, Sega, Sony and Other. Unless your an accessory whore you should be able to fit it all. It's MUCH easier to find what you want with a setup like that.

That seems to perpetually go on sale for 10-20 bucks, though. I'm waiting for a time when 1) that happens, and 2) I have the money and remember to use it. It'll happen some day, I'm sure.

Maybe I'm weird, but I've never liked coiling controller cords. I don't think it's good for them and I dislike the kinks it forms. So I have a closet door that I hang them from on the inside. Everything stays nice and straight and it doesn't stress the wires. I keep four favorite controllers for each system hanging and the rest are boxed.

Yeah, my controllers too fit in one of my un-used dresser draws. Cant' spell. It's almost too full though, I don't like stacking too many controllers on top of each other, too hard to then get out.

I don't like to wrap the cords around themselves, so what I do is put all of my controllers in a huge bin, but I coil the wires for each controller loosely and tie a twisty-wrap around each one. That way, the cords don't get tangled with each other, but it's not so tight that it would cause the cords to snap or fray.

I just wrap them and keep em in a drawer. but i found a nice way to wrap them though. I leave about a 2 inch loop where the cord comes out of the controller. it keeps the cord from pulling out of the controller

I used to be careful about coiling cords, but now I just toss 'em in a drawer. Of course, it also helps to have wireless controllers for half of my systems.

I bought one of these cheapo built-it-yourself cabinets from Target, and arrange them in and on top of there, coiled, and it looks very nice:



Of course, I only have one or two controllers for each system on there, just what I usually might use. The rest I throw in a box in the closet.

For my storage bins I keep my controllers wrapped up like that in the drawer with their respective system.

What's the "Funco -Wrap"?

This might be hard to explain without any visuals, but here goes...

1. Hold your right hand out with the fingers outstretched (think "jazz hands"), and dangle the controller over the front of your thumb, with the cord going across your thumb over to your pinky finger.

2. Loop the cord around your thumb and pinky (and again, keep them as far apart as possible) until there's about a fifth or so of the cord left.

3. Wrap the remaining fifth around the middle of the "wrap" you've already made, and stick the end of the controller cord through one of the sides.

And that's it. The best part about this is that the cords are wound up nicely enough that they don't get tangled w/ each other when there's a buttload of them in the same place. The description probably made no sense, but hopefully it'll give you some kind of an idea.
