    Default PGP-1 Personal Game Programmer

    Hi Folks,

I was browising DPs reviews and came across this one.

    http://digitalpress.5u.com/reviews/pgp1.htm

I'd love to hear more about how this was acquired and what the contract was like (or any other details)!

Also, if Al is willing to say, how much was paid for this? If any of us wanted (if you are allowed or willing to say), who should we contact to try to get one (yes, I know, big long shot).

Also, I've seen different models of this item online when searching for pictures (I've seen one and two keypad models, if I remember correctly).

Does Answer still own the other 11? Any ideas who does? Was there 6 PAL and 6 NTSC? I've always wanted to make a mini-site dedicated to this item, and there's so little info on it...

    Talk soon!
    Yours,
    Rob

D'oh! I meant to put this under the prototype board, sorry! Is there a way to move it?

I have a letter from Answer indicating that they were $97 (which, sadly, I didn't have at the time). I don't think there was any contract involved, but I got the impression that this was a beta release of sorts, and so they'd probably hope that you'd write them and let them know about any bugs etc.

I don't know of anyone else out there with one for sale, but I'd sure like to find one myself (BTW, Al sold his to another collector).

    Hi Russ,

$97! Was that the 1984 price or was that what Al bought it for? The DP review mentions a hefty sum and an agreement. I wonder who at Answer he contacted for it.

That was the price on a letter I got back in the day. I'm sure Al got more than that for it.

I own one. My unit is in excellent shape. I donot own any of the documentation. The unit I have has one cord that apparently hooks to the VCS (if memory serves) and another grey computer type cord that is plugged into a red and black "Answer Software Corp." cart that also says "PGP-1". The end label says "copyright (c) 1983.
The unit itself says: PERSONAL GAME PROGRAMMING SYSTEM
    PGP-1 ASC ANSWER SOFTWARE CORP.
The small key pad has white colored keys with 4 rows of 6 keys.
4 arrow keys;menu and enter keys;2 blank keys; lettered keys A-F; and number keys 0-9. It also has 2 switches: ON/OFF Power switch and ON/OFF Reset switch. There are no other markings anywhere on the outside of the unit. I donot plan on opening it up to see the inside.
I found mine back in '99 and it appeared to work back then but I never spent much time with it. It is one of my best finds. When I buy a new digital camera (mine broke) I will post some pictures on the boards.

    Default Docs

    Hi Stark,

That's great! How did you find it and when? Any cool story behind how?

Too bad you don't have the docs. I wonder if we can find who Al sold his to...It would be very cool to get scans of the docs and pics of anything else having to do with it. There's almost no info of it online, just a couple pics, and the same old blurb about how it's like a Game Genie.

If you ever plan to sell it, I'll be glad to put a bid in! :-) :-)

    Yours,
    ROb
