    Default Unknown Light Guns

    Hi Folks,
Long-time DP fan here (all the way back to '92/'93!).
Does anyone have any idea of what these light guns are? They were made by Mad Catz in 1996, but I can't find any info on these things. The connectors look like RJ-45's (like a computer ethernet cable). I picked them up from a co-worker who had no idea where he even got them. They were in a box with some beat-up Saturn games, so I just bought the whole lot. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Those look more like scanners that you would find in a retail store. Think check out... beep, bop, beep. Maybe Mad Catz made not only gaming stuff, but retail items too.

The RJ45 connector is what makes it look retail, giving the scanners power and transmitting data. Plug them into your RJ45 and see what happens when you pull the trigger. I am guessing that you will get the red scanner lines.

They made that light gun for the Playstation, but the end is different. I wonder if they made a universal one(for playstation/saturn) and you are missing the end plug?

hmm, that's a good guess. what's weird though is that they have a 'start' button on the side, and a button on either side like a joystick button. those are the only buttons on them, besides the trigger.

    p.s. - i love your avatar, rpepper9!

that crossed my mind as well. does anyone know if that's the case?
i couldn't find a picture of these on the 'net, but wondered if they were missing an adapter of sorts.

Looks like a phone jack on the end, which incidentally is how hotel room controllers seem to be made. Is it possible this is for some in-room entertainment?

Could be a system similar to the Justifier on genesis where these guns plug into a master gun with a regular controller port on the end. That or the suggested universal gun theory with a set of adapters seem most likely.
For lucky best wash, use Mr. Sparkle.

I've got a pair of these Madcatz guns, and you're definitely missing the adapter for the end. They came with 2 adapters that went from the RJ45 to either a Saturn or PS1 controller connector. They're decent light guns.

Here's a pic of the Saturn adapter:
