    Default AtariAge Downtime

Since I know many members of DP also frequent AtariAge, I figured I would post this here so at least some people know why AtariAge vanished off the web earlier this evening.

There was an electrical explosion at 4:55pm CST today at the datacenter where the AtariAge server is located, and the entire datacenter has been offline since then. This affects over 9,000 servers, and at this time they will not be able to get the datacenter back online (even partially) before sometime Sunday afternoon. There's absolutely nothing I can do from my end, except hope that they are able to get things back online sooner (although I don't really have my hopes up, given how they described the damage).

If anyone needs to contact me for any reason, you can do so at albert@austinsystems.com, since I won't have access to my AtariAge email until the server is back online.

Holy cripes, an explosion? That's some freaky stuff! I take it as good news that they're able to get it back up, period, then!

Wow, that's pretty crazy... hope everything works out. Was there any data loss?

Fortunately, no. The explosion destroyed three walls in an electrical equipment room, but no customer servers or network equipment were apparently damaged. Sounds like a significant infrastructure loss, though. Tomorrow morning they'll probably have a better idea of how long it'll take to get the center back online.

Wow. That's a little stunning. Glad to hear there was no data loss, and thanks for keeping us in the loop, so to speak.

I actually tried to log in over at AA about an hour ago, and just assumed it was down temporarily and would be back up tomorrow AM. I didn't really think much of it at the time.

I deny any involvement with this explosion.

Hmm... I wonder if Other World Computing (http://www.macsales.com) is on those servers too. Although their main index page is up, their store pages have been down since last night.

At least you have good reasons for your downtime! Once I explained that "an alpaca kicked over the server". Strangely, that was one of the most reasonable excuses I had. That week, anyway.

Thanks for the update, Al, and hoping for a speedy electronic recovery. If there's anything I can do, just give me a shout.

sorry to hear that al, I think rob at atari-users.net might provide you some free space for AA while it's down.(or maybe joe as stated above)

I just hope it's back up by tomorrow.
I mean, what would I do when I'm at work?
I might actually have to do my job, and nobody wants that.

Kidding aside, hope everything works out quickly.

Thanks for the kind words and offers everyone. It would be a gargantuan task to move AA to another server and it would take quite a bit of space. If the whole datacenter burned down, I would already be working on getting a server elsewhere, but hopefully it'll be back online today. Still no ETA on when things will be back online, but they are posting updates every hour..
