Default SNES Game Genie Compatibility Issues

I've been trying to use a SNES Game Genie with some of the games in my collection, but the results have been mixed. Some games work perfectly with the codes listed in the guidebook. However, many others do not, such as Jurassic Park and The Ignition Factor among others. This is the 2nd GG I have bought for the SNES, since my original one had the same problems. Any ideas on what may be causing it?

There are a few issues with the SNES Game Genie but in general, they're all correctable.

Issue 1: Some codes don't work.
Reason: Nintendo tried to sue Galoob over the Game Genie and lost. As a result, they started to reworking their games so while the first version of a game might work with some codes, the second edition might not. Usually, if it's a popular enough game, people have created alternate codes that generate similar effects.

Issue 2: Some games won't start when using a Game Genie. (Ex. Super Metroid and Killer Instinct)
Reason: Some games have copy protection in that if they're plugged into a copying device they won't start up. A side effect is that the games think the Game Genie is one of these devices. The solution is to load up the codes with the Game Genie turned OFF. Then after the game starts, flip the on switch.

You should also note that some codes do not work because there are multiple versions of some games. Jurassic Park is one of those games. The Ignition Factor does not have a known variant, but perhaps if you can tell me what the number grooved in the back label of the cart, you could have one.
<Evan_G> i keep my games in an inaccessable crate where i can't play them

Are you referring to the model number? If so, The Ignition Factor's is SNS-006. My Jurassic Park's is also SNS-006

I believe SNS-006 is the internal part number for "SNES CARTRIDGE" so all games would say that.

Oh. Well, the game is second-hand, but I think I can make out "00" imprinted into the back label. It's faint, though.

I've noticed that sometimes it is the system itself. GG codes for Contra III wouldn't work on my system, however when I tried it on an older system, it worked perfectly.

Perhaps that's it. I have the same problem with Contra III.

Nintendo did reduced the power current flow to the SNES cartridge port.To lock the use of copying devices as well as the Game Genie in later SNES motherboards revisions. You must have a newer revision.!

Devices like the Game Genie need to feed power from the SNES cartridge port in order to power on.If not enough juice, the device won't kick all the way!
