The "indie" PC game thread

We're probably due to try and start creating a list of the important/awesome/creative/amusing games in the indie PC world. If people are interested in listing games they think the rest of us should check out, I'll try to keep the thread up to date.

As for myself, I just checked out The Wonderful End of the World and Aquaria. I'm a little late to the party on both.

TWEotW is pretty much a straight up Katamari clone without the budget or the high doses of charm, but it scratches the right itches. The video game level is pretty awesome.

Aquaria is extremely beautiful; I think I'll be paying for the full version.

I'll also remind folks to check out Passage and The Marriage. I think they're both very important games that folks should check out. Neither will require much of your time.

Is anyone else playing anything interesting on the indie game front? I normally don't hear about these sorts of games until I see them on some random list or blog, so I'm apt to miss a lot of them. Any recommendations would be very welcome.

Cave Story is the best freeware game I've ever played. It rivals some commercial games, and it was made by just one person.

if anyone knows some great (free) rpgs please post here. i dont care about graphics (text only is fine) i just want some great story!

Well I have to second Cave Story. But my favorite indie game is N @ http://www.thewayoftheninja.org/n.html can't wait for the XBLA/DS/PSP N+!

And also to be obvious nethack, even though I suck. Not a RPG Poofta, but a great rougelike/dungeon crawler!

If any game enthusists haven't tried ROM CHECK FAIL!, you need to remedy that now.

The game is brilliantly subversive with the way it deconstructs what makes a game work.

And it's also a lot of fun.
