I never even owned a C64, but that was pretty spiffy.

Wow, that was cool. Ice, we should go through and name as many as we can. I recognized about the same number. I didn't knew a few of the horizontal space shooters. I've probably played them, but they all look the same 20 years later.

oh man the memories

you know i had a commadore 64C as a kid but i didn't realize it till just kinda recently....i always just thought of it as that crappy computer i had while everyone else had nintendos.

looking back though i really loved that machine. probibly why i just bought one.

my dad had the amiga 500....funny thing is after the video was over i thought "they should do a amiga version" and then right in the selection of other to watch there it is...gonna watch that one now to.

I played about 10 of them. They left out a bunch of other ones that I used to play though.

A few more off the top of my head...

#21 - Keith Von Eron's Pro Soccer
#23 I believe is Hyper Sports
#34 - Montezuma's Revenge
#40 - Skate or Die
#42 - World Games?
#47 - I'm going to guess it's called Tusker (based on the giant Tusker banner at the top of the screen) :P
#49 - is that IK+ again? Or another in the IK series?
#54 - Blue Max?
#55 - Dunno the game, but it kinda looks like Count Duckula
#59 - Buggy Boy
#63 - Stormlord?
#64 - Fiendish Freddy's Big Top O Fun
#66 - the screen says Zycaps...best I can figure
#73 - Frankie Goes To Hollywood?
#85 - looks like Outrun...but some stuff doesn't quite fit
#89 - Platoon

That's what I've got

Coming from someone who hasn't even used a Commodore 64, that was cool and makes me want one. I really hope I can find one, one day.

I liked the music, so I followed the link to c64audio.com to check it out a bit more, but it crashes my internet browsers when I try to go. Is it just me?

As I've known the guy who runs C64Audio for over a decade... I'll pass along your issue(s) and see if he can find anything. It works fine for me in IE7 and Firefox 2. What OS and browser you using Vectorman?

I recognized about 63 of them, excluding one's I've never seen with titles on the screen (Gremlins 2) or recognizable characters (Count Duckula).

Shout out to Super Pipeline and Lazy Jones!

Whooo!

Cheers,
Ben

P.S. haha and recognized 63 of the Amiga games too!!! They missed Virus, Starglider II and a few others...

It crashes my Firefox 2.0.0.4 and just hangs in IE 7.0.6000.16473

What OS? Those are the exact versions I believe I tried them on and it was fine for me. On two different PCs. Javascript is definitely needed, is that turned on? I'll ask Chris and see if he can suggest anything that might have been reported along similar lines...

I had a C64 when I was a child! We're talking "too young to play" era. I ALWAYS wondered what it was and now I know, thanks to this thread. The hunt is on!!

it always amazed me that some of these games look 2600 like and some look 16bit or even 32 bit (side scroller like).

and it always amazes me how smooth things move in alot of the games.

I'm sure that has to do with the longevity of the C64 in general. When it first came out in 1982, people did quick ports of arcade games and games written in BASIC. By 1993 when the last one came off the line, you had Creatures, Mayhem in Monsterland pushing the boundries of what you thought could happen in 64K.

Oddly enough, coming from having very little experience with the C64 and watching that video, Creatures and Mayhem in Monsterland are the two games that really stuck out to me as looking far nicer than I'd have thought the hardware was able.

I don't think I've played a single one of the games in that video. At the very least, I didn't see any of the handful of games I had back when...or maybe I just didn't recognize them because they were in color. I sort of want to try some of them now, though!

Many of them hold up surprisingly well. Others, though, certainly fall short or don't live up to our memories of them.

However, Archon never goes out of style, bitches.

I never played the C64 so most games I'm not familiar with, unless they're well-known games (like Spy vs. Spy) or ports of games that came out on other platforms (Montezuma's Revenge, BC Quest for Tires, Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands, Gradius)...

#12 is Project: Firestart. I was very impressed to see that one on there. Excellent game!

#59 is also known as Speed Buggy, another one of my favorites.

#66 - actually it says Zynaps, but close enough.

#92 is Forbidden Forest, or did also go by the name Dark Forest?

I probably guessed 60-70 of them, but there were several I recognized and just couldn't place the name. Thanks for posting that!
