    Default GBA SP impressions

Well I got my SP in the mail today, and the super cool black one might I add,and I have to say I am impressed. It only uses rechargeable batteries, which are included in the system,so you never have to buy AAs again. The light is cool too,it works well in the dark but doesn't do to much when there is light out.The d pad is new, feels weird at first but now that I am use to it I like it better. The L and R buttons are small, but I haven't really used them too much and when I have they felt fine.

Overall it is kinda small but I have gotten use to it.It is great if you don't have a GBA but if you already do I would hold off on it,or just buy a light.

Well that is what I have to say,I would give it out of

I've heard the L and R buttons are tough to get to. Could you elaborate on the effectiveness of the light and why you're saying to stick with the original gba + an external light. -Just curious thanks

I am still happy with my Platinum GBA with the Afterburner.

Nintendo pulled a fast one on us

From the reviews I read, all the flaws of the afterburner are missing here.. (trapozoid effect, and washed colors are a thing of the past with the SP!)

I'm somewhat amused that it took Nintendo 14 years to figure out that their handhelds need a backlight. I guess it's to be expected, however, considering how long it took them just to get a color system out.

Actually if I'm not mistaken it didn't take them 14 years to figure it out. They had a lighted version of the original gameboy in japan called the gameboy lite ( I think ) Anyway just FIY.

Nintendo cares more about battery life then anything else. Why the bameboy did so well.. No parent wants to get 6 batteries every 2 hours

And the Game Boy Lite's light was some sort of Indiglo. Ugh.

Battery life has indeed been a major selling point for Nintendo. The Game Gear: 6 batteries (and a backlight that never turns off). The original Game Boy: 4 batteries (later trimmed to 2).

It's too bad that Nintendo has decided that the Lit-Ion battery should be out of the reach of ordinary people who would eventually want to replace it when it dies out. I guess that Nintendo's counting on the fact that, by the time that battery dies out, the next gen of Game Boy will be released.

Like they said in the latest edition of EGM: if you already have a GBA, it's not worth it (unless you really, really want the front light and don't want to get an Afterburner installed). Otherwise, it's worth the extra $30 US (or $50 CDN).

In my case, since I lost my GBA, I might as well wait another 3 weeks and get the SP along with the Wind Waker.

Well I am just saying that it isn't worth it if you alreayd have a GBA and don't have the extra money.

The light is sweet, and if you have the extra cash I would get it.The light is better than any external light, but might not be worth the extra money to everybody.

    Hope that clears things up.
