Game publisher Atari on Monday named board member James Caparro as its new president and chief executive officer.

The position was previously held by Bruno Bonnell, chairman and chief creative officer of the New York-based company.

Caparro, who joined Atari's board in February 2002, had worked with Warner Music Group, Universal Music and PolyGram.

"Jim's track record is impeccable and we are thrilled to have an executive of his caliber and reputation leading Atari," Bonnell said in a statement.
Caparro will oversee global operations, while Bonnell will restrict himself to sharpening Atari's creative and technological edge in gaming.
