    Insector X is back, baby!

All I know is that Cave's latest will debut in Japanese arcades this Friday. I have no idea as to what sort of game it is, but I like the developer enough to look forward to this "Mushihime" thing. If I'm not mistaken, the title translates as "Insect Princess."

And I really need to get ESPgaluda.

It's a manic shooter, much in the same vein as all their other ones, but has quite a few different things about it.

1: There are now options a la Gradius
2: You can choose normal mode vs. manic mode
    3: Different power-ups....er...sort of.

There's been a few beta tests. The first was extremely packed. The other one (in Shibuya) was very calm, and I got to play through the 3rd stage. It's a great game I'd say, but the feel is quite different from their other games. I'd say it's not near as hard as DoDonpachi DOJ or Ketsui, but harder than ESPGaluda.

Instead of blue & red bullets, there's a nice shade of pink & purple. The graphics are great, and there's some crazy "gas" effects going on with the bombs and whatnot. From the few times I've played it, I give it the thumbs up, but I'm not shelling out 260,000 yen for it.

EDIT: There's a REALLY long thread about this at Shmups, if it ever comes back up.
