It is definately a system that I didn't notice it back in the day, but alot of the games are fuzzy as all hell.
Still like the N64 better as of now. And that's not even counting all the memories I have on that system. It's really the first system I could afford most of the games I wanted, actually almost every single game I wanted. I did trade alot of my games in though, this was before I "really collected" though.

    Apples and oranges.

It's like asking, "What do you like better, the Sega Saturn or the Dreamcast?"

    or

"Which do you like better, the NES or the SNES?"

I know it's just a discussion based on opinion (as are most of the threads here), but what's the point?

Are you trying to show that one is better than the other because some enjoy one more than the other?

If you're going to compare, at least make it a valid comparison.

What do you like better, the NES or the Gamecube?

    Silly.

Game Cube. Oh and just so you know I have 11 N64 games so my opinion must count.

Gotta put my 2 zenny in on this one.

    N64. All. The. Way.

Of course the controller will always be up for debate as that's a preference thing, but that's for any console. I personally found that the N64 controller just melted into my hand while the PSX controller was a pain in the palms-especially when it came out with dual shock.

Industry wise, the N64 created the standard, hardware or software, the console industry has followed to this very day:

    -Computer controlled rumble capability
-4 controller ports (not exactly was a pioneer but it was the only other system at the time that had four ports after the Atari 5200)
-analog stick (again, not a pioneer but it definitely proved it was "the way to go" and the industry hasn't looked back since)
-Elements in games that has been copied since (Z-style targeting from Ocarina of Time comes to mind).

As for software: exclusives are one of the big selling points of any console so one would hope the game would be good. And N64 has a good lineup:

(see Ed's list and now add

    Excitebike 64
All of the WCW/WWF THQ/AKI wrestling games
Jet Force Gemini (kind of an acquired taste)
Space Station Silicon Valley (very acquired taste but very original)
The New Tetris (automatic 4 player-just add controller)
    Mario Tennis
    Mario Golf
    Kirby 64
    Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Gauntlet Legends (a twist of the arcade game, it's got adventure elements where you can turn off your power ups to save and maybe sell later)
    Banjo Kazooie & Tooie

Gamecube to me is a disappointment, from launch to current. Every Nintendo franchise game just felt *too* rehashed. With the SNES the 16 bit sequels put some new spins and made an old formula feel new again (see Super Metroid, Zelda 3, Super Mario World, SMW 2 for example). The GC just made the N64 sequels pretty. There have been some games that were good and felt fairly fresh (Prince of Persia, Animal Crossing, Super Monkey Ball, Zelda: Wind Waker-to a point) and a small handful of games look promising (the next Zelda, Star Fox) but the controller does put a damper on my enjoyment. Bean shaped buttons, a big main button that seems to say "hey moron, press THIS button to do stuff", a spongy control stick, a second stick with even worse control, analog triggers that don't feel analog and an overall feeling of slight discomfort.

I picked the GC because for me it's a better single player experience and I'm mainly a solo gamer. If this were a poll for which system of the two had better multiplayer capabilities, I'd have to say N64 all the way.

It's not any more silly than any other comparison post, regardless of reason. State your preference, tell us why. If you don't like the thread don't read it. Sheesh.

Oh yeah, and I love the GameCube, although I think that both the N64 has better multi-player games. The GC is on top for me for the Star Wars Rogue Squadron games and Animal Crossing, not to mention the Game Boy Player, which is what I use my Cube for mostly nowadays.

I went for the N64. I love my 'Cube but it just isn't the leap that the N64 was. Obviously that's not Nintendo's fault it's just history - there was no massive leap to make technologically when the 'Cube was released.

Has Mario64 ever been bettered? I don't think so, it is the epitomy of 3d platforming. Goldeneye and (my fave console FPS) Perfect Dark are still really strong games today. Turok - when the bad guys came running round a corner with their legs going from under them nothing looked that realistic before. All incredibly immersive games. And I found the controller much comfier than the PS controller. I mainly play N64 under emulation these days, that means no more blurring, yeah!

N64 for the games and controller. Don't have much experience on the GC seeing I don't like the controller too much.

EXACTLY! There was no real massive leap on the technology side when this gen. of consoles came out. I don't see next gens. being that much better either. I don't see how they can, I mean until gamemakers make games that look 100% real.

Although I play my 'cube considerably more, I gotta go with the N64. It was one of my first consoles, and it was what got me into gaming.

I think fo the N64 and all kinds of great games like
    Mario 64
    Banjo-Kazooie 1
    Banjo-Kazooie 2
    Goldeneye
    Turok 2

    Blast Corps
    Zelda - Ocarina of Time
    Zelda - Masks of Majora

There won't be any jump. We'll still have a vocabulary for graphics glitches, and we'll still have "wow" moments playing on a new console.

We actually already have games that look "100% real" - sometimes, anyway - and any improvements will be slight. We're down to the law of diminishing returns, really.

    NES = Model T
    SNES = T-Bird
    ...
PS2 vs. XBox = would you like GPS with that sir?

Out of the two, the N64 has given me way more quality game time.

Not to mention the N64 actually had a D-Pad worth using.

That's a tough one. I'd have to go with the Gamecube because it has a better variety of games in its library, IMO. Super Mario Sunshine isn't even close to being as good as Super Mario 64 though...
