I downloaded it and enjoyed the free 5 point achievement I got. I walked around the arcade and didn't see one thing I wanted to spend my 20 tokens on. It's a very cool concept but until they have games I want to play I won't be spending very much time in there.

You can get 80 achievement points in about 5 minutes without really trying and without spending any money.

MegaDrive & Octo - thanks for the explanation. That is what I thought, but I wanted to be sure before I screwed myself out of points that I didn't need to spend.

I might pick up one or two games to give this thing a try.

Now if only they would add BurgerTime to this....it would then be perfect.

I tried it this morning and I thought it fun. I wish it was a full virtual space where you could walk around and look at the games and talk to your friends' Avatars and things. Then there would finally be a decent use for them. Maybe they'll do that in Gameroom 2.0.

The game selection is a bit limited right now but there are still some classics. The only one I would be likely to actually buy is Scramble. It's nice to see some of this stuff available, though. I try to collect arcade and other game compliations and there were a couple of games I don't have on any of my compilations.

I wasn't really sure how the tokens worked. I thought you had to spend them to play the games but every game I played in demo play just let me do it for free.

I wonder if they will really live up to their promise of having 1,000 games in this eventually. There just doesn't seem to be space to fit that many. Right now it's actually kind of funny, some of the little theme arcades have the same games as other themes. I think I even saw one with the same game twice.

I saw some guy on another board bitching about sound emulation, but I think that's just because of an option in the menu to make it sound like arcade ambiance.

Considering that I was paying 400 points for Asteroids/Asteroids Deluxe awhile back, 240 seems acceptable to me. In my mind it's costing me 160 less per game.

(Before you say 'but you payed only 200 points per game' I'm going to say that I never would have bought both Asteroids games had they been 200 points each, so it's moot IMO)

Seeing my friend's high scores as banners beside the cabinets is cool. I agree that when an avatar is blocking a machine it's off putting (but again, minor quibble, as I think seeing the Avatars of friends wandering around the arcade is cool).

I plan in buying some stuff, I just haven't decided what. Adventure is a fave of mine, but without any high score competition to engage in with friends I'm not sure I'd buy it.

I'm curious if anybody will ever pay the 40 points for one play or not. You can play any game the first time for free, but if you go back to play a second time you've got to cough up 40 points if you don't want to pay for the full game.

I can't see ever paying the 40 points. If I want to play a game so badly after the demo trial that I'm willing to pay $0.50 for a game, I would just as soon pay $3 to own it.

I bought Scramble and Tempest and like them both. Not much else for me in the first 2 packs. The racing game (Road Warrior?) is fun, but not enough to purchase. I'm a big Super Cobra fan, but the emulation felt way off. And I can't see paying $3 for any Atari or INTV title in the game room. Arcade all the way!

Well...if you're cheap and want achievement points, you could always play the game on the PC or on its native platform, and then pay the 40 points to get all of the medals in one go instead of paying the full price for the game. I've thought about doing that on Super Cobra, since my first run on the game was good enough for 5th on the leaderboard but it was done on a Demo playthrough. 1st time I've played Super Cobra, though I'm a big Scramble fan myself.

I am pretty happy with it so far. It obviously has amazing potential.

Based on a Retronauts podcast from a while ago they also mentioned the seven games per week and a goal of a thousand titles in three years.

I can't wait until they get to more late eighties titles.

    The first batch of seven

Game Room - April 28, prices range from $0.50 to $5
    Super Breakout (Atari)
    Pitfall! (Activision)
    Megamania (Activision)
    Night Stalker (Mattel Electronics)
    Rack 'Em Up (Konami)
    Realsports Volleyball (Atari)
    Basketball (Atari)

I'm happy to see the Activision stuff - I wants me some River Raid!

(Not that I can't play it on my 7800 in the basement )

I should have figured that out when someone on my friends list had exactly 80 achievement points for the Arcade but I just figured she started purchasing stuff. So I went back and now I too have 80 achievement points for it. It will most likely stay at that level for awhile.
