I just finished MM: Clash of Heroes. A pretty good game but you can do everything in the game in 15-20 hours. It is kind of like Puzzle Quest, but Puzzle Quest is better. Haven't played the others, but I've heard good things about M&L Bowser's Inside Story.
-Pokemon Diamond/Pear/Platinum (or wait two months for HeartGold/SoulSilver)
-Picross DS
-The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks
-Dragon Quest 4/5
-Kirby Super Star Ultra
-Final Fantasy III
-Any of the Castlevania games.
A few not already mentioned:
Chrono Trigger
Sonic Rush Adventure
Rondo of Swords
Professor Layton (any)
Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure
Bangai-O Spirits
I reject your reality and substitute it for one of my own!
RO(Ragnarok online): Comes out early feb
SMT:SJ(late march).
Retrogame Challenge(awesome old school stile game, 8 different games in one package)
The Dark Spire: It's not a Wizardry game granted, but It's deffinitely on pay with all the other good Maze crawler/RPGs that were made back in the old school days(lol good luck trying to find that now, since It's a very good game published by ATLUS, which has been out of print for awhile).
PS. The Retrogame Challenge also has decent Platformers in it as well(it has platformes, shooters, amazing shooters, an RPG, and racers).
Contra 4
Dragon Quest 4/5/Monsters Joker
Feel the Magic XY/XX
Rub Rabbits
Mega Man ZX/ZX Advent
Contact
Advance Wars Dual Strike/Days of Ruin
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
New Super Mario Brothas
Retro Game Challenge
Jump Ultimate Stars(import, badass, no Japanese knowledge necessary)
Avalon Code
Final Fantasy 4
Final Fantasy Tactics A2
Resident Evil Deadly Silence(Masters of Knifing is worth buying it again, plus the game owns regardless.)
If you're a masochist like me, maybe you'd like (or already do, who knows), the Harvest Moon series. Rune Factory is a pretty interesting DS title, as is HM: Island of Happiness.
Someone already mentioned Chrono Trigger, which is great on the DS! The even added some new areas to the original game. Same goes for Mario 64 DS - though the control can be challenging with this one. Also, Star Fox: Command is great and different if you're a fan of the series.
Currently, I'm playing Contact and FFIII and I'm enjoying them both.
Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure. It's really a good platformer mixed with a puzzle game, I wasn't expecting it to be that good but it is.

You can't go wrong with:
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice for All
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations
Elite Beat Agents
Mario Kart DS
Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon
And the upcoming Miles Edgeworth: Ace Attorney Investigations looks great! I've played the demo and I can't wait for it to come out in the states.
Opinion. I found Joker too be enjoyable, but that's because I'm a Pokemon fan and that I understand it has the same set up as a traditional DQ game in terms of grinding until your eyes bleed. It's very much rewards based. You work for your levels, you got to continue the story.
Evidently I so shouldn't post in the new school frorum, and expect people to decern from a good game, and a POS all around game.
PS. I'm busy atm, but I'm gonna post a DQM: Joker thread, so I can itemize the million, and one things that were done terribly wrong in that game(and explain exactly why each thing listed is bad, as well as how it should've been done).

Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan - by far my favourite DS game, much better than Elite Beat Agents and I also prefer it to its sequal.
Electroplankton - nice chillout music maker playtoy
Lost In Blue - survive whilst stranded on a desert island
Meteos - great touch screen puzzler
Ketsui Death Label - boss rush bullet hell shmup
Space Invaders Extreme - completely modern update.
Metroid Prime Pinball - I loved it and I've never played a Metroid game!
Retro Game Challenge - if you're on these forums you'll definitely love this.
and well, there's too many great games to list but I think Tetris DS and Zoo Keeper are essential puzzlers.
Well if you're looking for one that lasts, can't go wrong with Phantasy Star Zero. I've played 30 hours and still only (believe it or not) have 21% of the reward/achievement tasks completed and still on normal difficulty.
The other games you're thinking about getting sound good too though.
I really like the first Luminous Arc (turn-based strategy RPG). Haven't played enough of the second one to judge it. I also really like Daigasso! Band Brothers (music game). The second Daigasso! is fun as well.
Zoo Keeper
