Default God of War III Ultimate Edition = Interesting

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/...ems-announced/

I'm intrigued, but kinda apprehensive until I find out how well constructed it is.

I want that demo...

I preordered the sucker yesterday, but the halfbrain employee at GameStop told me there was no such thing as a voucher to download the demo, even though it was stated in the website. She kept telling me it was for GOW Collection and NOT the preorder of GOW3. Now I have to fight this if I want the demo...

Really? Based on what? All you get is what will likely be a small plastic box and a small art book. Everything else is a download code, including the making of documentary and music soundtracks. I can't see how those two items are worth $40.

Why is the bonus skin called Dominus? Isn't this series based on Greek myths?

Plastic or not, that's a cool looking box. I also am a fan of God of War so it's worth it to me. Of course, I could be completely let down by it like I was the Castlevania 'statue' you got for reserving one of the DS titles.

Unlikely. It's being distributed very widely and I can't see how codes could have much collectible value down the road.

Not referring to the codes, but the physical contents of the game, like the box and all corresponding physical "extras".

I've seen SF4 and RE5 collector sets fetch an asinine prices in the past, so I would not be surprised if this happens to the game as well.

There are only physical two extras, the plastic box and the art book. RE5 went down in value immediately and can be had new/sealed for about the same price as the game alone. Only the PS3 version of SF4 CE experienced a bump because it outsold the 360 version and the PS3 became the official system for competitive play for the game. You can still find the 360 CE version for slightly more than the game sells for alone. Unless this thing is truly limited (which it won't be), I guarantee it won't maintain its value. As such, unless you have to have a plastic box and a small art book to make your GoW III experience complete, this isn't worth it.

I want one. Believe it or not I know that it is a small box that won't be an actual representation of pandora's box but I like it and I want it for me not to sell. Is that so wrong?

The box is supposed to be of much higher quality then most extras in other Limited Editions. But having all the cool extras as download only is a deal breaker for me. The cool box will just sit and look cool for a few weeks on a shelf but without anything else to go with it after the codes are used it's definitely not worth an extra $40 outside the cost of the game itself.

By the way...the demo is pretty slick.

I am not a big fan of downloadable content. You would think Sony of all company would give gamers soundtrack instead of MP3 and documentary on DVD or bluray instead of downloading through their PSN. Seems like user are just paying extra for the plastic box and artbook.

Loosely based.

Don't care about plastic crap, yet another latin chanting OST, or character skins. I just want to stab cyclops' (cyclopses? Cycli? Whatever).

Nothing beats the Blazblue limited edition for me, because not only did it come with a two disc soundtrack and a great tutorial disc, but it was the SAME PRICE AS THE 'REGULAR' EDITION. Spending an extra thirty to forty bucks on the gaming equivalent of happy meal toys isn't a priority for me anymore: the extras are seldom worth it.

As a video game collector and GOW fan I definitely want this.....but not for $99. I'll wait until it hits the clearance section for $40 or below.

These special limited edition versions of games are nice I suppose if you're a hardcore collector, but I think for a lot of gamers paying an extra $40, $50, or whatever for the limited edition version of a game is a bit much? I wouldn't pay anymore than $20 extra for the limited edition version, like I did with MGS4. Paying $60 for the regular versions of games is too much, charging extra for limited edition versions isn't really worth it unless you're getting a shit load of extras. That being said, this GOWIII collection and the Modern Warfare 2 collection do look fucking amazing, whether they're worth the extra $$ is up to the individual gamer I guess.

If the entire game is anywhere near the quality of the demo being letdown shouldn't be an issue. Easily the best look and running PS3 game to date, colors are vibrant and the effects are gorgeous.

I'l be picking up this set as well for the sheer love of the series.

I'm disappointed it doesn't include the re-mastered God of War 1 & 11 that is being sold for the PS3. That really would have made this the "Ultimate Edition" and probably swayed me to pre-order.

I pre-ordered the ultimate edition, I'm a sucker for special editions even if most of them aren't worth anything in the future.

Reason why I plan on forgoing the preorder and getting it later.

I bet Amazon will put this version of the game for around $60 in a few months, like it did with Tekken 6 and Batman AA.

I'm with Bojay on this. I'm not going to spend an extra $40 for a damn box. Most Limited Editions seem to just be taking advantage of collectors who will shell out lots more money for an extra couple cents worth of material (is that Madden Limited Edition fetching hundreds of dollars yet?).

This is how you do a special edition:
http://kotaku.com/5429696/the-defini...for-lunar-fans
http://kotaku.com/5233094/blazblue-l...ry-blue-indeed

And the fact that Blazblue's special edition costs the same damn price as the game alone just makes things like this God of War $100 crap look even worse.

I'll be passing on this one. The last LE I bought was Assassin's Creed 2 and I waited and I was able to get it for $30 rather than $90.
