I have never seen this one but got it today in a lot I purchased, usually I see the silver/grey label. Just curious about this one.

Just a re-release. Part of the "Classic Series" of re-releases Nintendo was doing near the end of the NES's lifespan. Same kind of deal as the grey versions of The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II. And just like those, it's not as common as the original version.
about what I thought. thanks!

It took me awhile to find that one as well. Now the only Classic Series game I haven't seen is Blades of Steel. I've probably owned 20 of those, and they've all been the original.
Later edition game, similiar to greatest hits runs for the snes I believe
Yep, this was the one I picked up in '94 when I was trying to reacquire my NES games. I prefer this art to the original.
I like the art too. Many of my friends who either have the original or don't (I'm the only one with this type of copy) Like it more than the original.
what does the re-release of Blades of Steel look like? any scans of that?

That's the best I could find. The label just has that red border around it. I was surprised when I first heard about it because by that time I was already pretty into NES collecting and had never seen one. Three years later and I still haven't.
aside from the labels metroid and blades of steel are 100% identical to the orignial releases (I ended up dumping them years ago just to be sure)
