    Default Rumor: 40 GB ps 3 for $400, 80 gb ps 3 for $500 (joystiq.com)

    http://www.joystiq.com/2007/09/10/ru...0-80gb-to-500/

Ars Technica has a mole that's had a few hits in the past that's now whispering about something big . The mole says that Sony's console pricing for the holiday season will be the 80GB PlayStation 3 at $499.99 and a 40GB PlayStation 3 at $399.99. Yep, 40GB. We hope there's some other sort of pot sweetening here, otherwise, the only consumer for the 80GB SKU is the one who doesn't realize that you can hook whatever hard drive you want up to the system. The mole also claims that Spider-Man 3 on Blu-ray will be packed in with one or both of the consoles and that the PlayStation 2 will be dropping to $99.99.

The PS2 and PS3 price cuts would make sense going into a tough holiday fight. Even the 40GB rings true in the sense that it's PlayStation 3 plus baffling pricing, the Sony and Cher of the industry at the moment. With Tokyo Game Show just around the corner, we're hopeful we'll get some official word soon.

If this true, then Sony did a good move. I wonder how stripped down the 40 GB ps 3 is in features. I think the $99.00 ps 2 is signal that the system will a secondary system for sony starting next year to the end of the systems life in 2010 or 2011. I think it might be the final price cut for the ps 2.

A 40 gig PS3 at $399 would be nothing to sneeze at considering an Xbox 360 with Wifi dongle clocks in at $450...

I'm pretty set on playing Bioshock and Space Giraffe though, so I doubt I'll be getting a PS3 any time soon...

    Cheers,

Mmm, not bad. I personally will go for this since I was going to change the HDD out for a bigger one anyways. At least the PS3 allows this unlike the 360. Looking forward to some Warhawk action.

Well perhaps its too early to count the kid out afterall. This rumour, on top of a growing list of PS3 games I'm curious about (Home and LittleBigPlanet and Eye of Judgement) is finally starting to tilt my wallet in a more Sony friendly direction. I haven't purchased either a 360 or PS3 yet (and don't forsee myself getting both) but if this holds true and MS doesn't pull a rabbit out of its hat come TGS I may be the latest recruit in the Sony Defense Force.

    God help me.

Good news. Now all Sony needs is a good HI REZ 2D fighter and I am sold.

About Frigging time. If only they launched with the 399 40 gig model, they would of not screwed themselves so much. Sony has some catching up to do. The 399 model is a good start.

This would be an extremely smart move for Sony.
