Default New Super Mario Bros Wii: 9-7

Hopefully there's not a thread about this already, I couldn't search because Wii and New are under the 4 letter minimum.

I've been playing New Super Mario Bros Wii for the last week and I'm 99% of the way through the game. I'm on the last level 9-7 (well technically 9-8 is the last world, but I'm done with it) and having a horrible time beating it. I can make it through the level in one piece after a few tries, but I can't get all the coins and survive. The problem is that the level is unforgiving, if you wait too long in one spot or miss a jump you might as well quit because the ice melts making the rest of the level impossible. I've seen numerous videos on how to do the level, but they all seem to depend on being able to make every single jump with perfect timing at a running start without stopping. This is something that just isn't going to happen.

Any other hints? I've come close using the propeller cap, but I usually end up getting hit eventually. Using the fire flower is insanity because one errant fireball and you've destroyed an entire platform. The level is just nuts!

What I did was I killed both fire bros. by jumping on their heads after they melted enough ice to reach the last coin, then I used the propeller cap. I used a star to breeze through most of the beginning.

I never try to get all the coins in 1 run. I come back for any missing hard ones after I already clear the level.

I'm a collector, but only to a certain extent.
Not as extreme as Rickstilwell though.[/quote]

I feel ya, it took me quite a few lives to clear that one, and that was without getting the Star Coins! I'm really dreading going back to get them... oddly enough, I had a much easier time the rest of World 9...

I just got al lthe coins and beat the game. The secret was to get one at a time rather than all of them at once. Still, it took me awhile.
