Default Year of Game FRIENDLY COMPETITION THREAD

**Discussion phase, add your cents and good sense below!**

Alright, let's pick a game with scoring and all try to get good at it. Highscore table will be posted here. There is no prize (at least I can't think of one yet), but we will settle that later. Post with the game you think we should do (I'm going to refrain for now except to say I like shooters

I suggest a lightgun game for PSX or PS2. Point Blank 3 or Time Crisis 2 come to mind.

I would suggest an older game. Something that more of us are likely to have.

How about a classic shooter like Salamander or Donpachi? That way people could play it on MAME or play one of the ports.

Also, there could be multiple games -- say, a platformer, shooter, light gun, etc.

If I had a Jynx think of the things we can do together. She also kisses alot.
Not to mention her breast plates is obviously hiding something nice

    Sensible points.

On the lightgun games...well, not everybody has a lightgun. I would be up for putting in different categories, of course, so we could do one anyway...

Maybe we could do a game for each generation or system? Like Megamania for Atari, something for NES, SNES, et cetera. We don't want this to get too big, though. Maybe five or six games, max. Anyway, I think this is a great idea, and I'm excited to get started.

Yeah I suggest doing a modern and classic game at the same time and somehow try to tie them together. It would be fun as long as it wasn't Intelligent Qube and Bubble Bath Babes at the same time then the winner would be the first person to get complete copies of both games.
Looking to buy any Criterion movies that I don't already have.

Would Megamania have to be played on the original hardware?

The problem is that there are limits on how large a katamari you can roll -- I think we should try for games that aren't quite as limited, like shooters. Plus, my little sister would beat all of us in any Katamari game.

How about voting on a game from each generation?

Megamania has already been nominated and seconded.
I nominate Salamander (arcade version) for the second generation.

I nominate Blazing Lazers on the Turbo GraFX 16. A great high scoring game and we won't have to worry about anyone completing it (at least not me).

I nominate Galaga '88. We all probably possess the basic skill set to be proficient at the game because it's so close to Galaga, but there's so many variations in how the game is played based on decisions you make during play (such as whether or not to warp, whether to start with a single or dual ship setup) that it would allow for some really clever strategizing, and a big variety of scores amongst competitors.

    I third Megamania. 2600 version.

Astrosmash would be my second choice.

I don't know. Seeing as this is a casual contest just for fun, I don't think it matters. I'm sure there are plenty of ports of such a classic game that would serve fine.

How about a generic game just about everyone owns and can be played on the console rather than emulated. For high scores a picture should be taken of the TV/monitor (for those using RGB/VGA/DVI) for legitimacy. Also if there's a difficulty setting for the game, maybe different levels could be distributed to seperate experts from newbies.

    Some suggestions:
    R-Type
    Darius
    Super Mario Kart
    Tetris
    PuyoPuyo

    Ideas on how you're ranked:
    Side-scrollers: Points and difficulty
    Puzzles: Level reached and points
    Racing: Lap times

    Tony Hawk (any of them)
and thats just a few I am sure I will think of more

Curses! Internet was out yesterday. I'm back, though.

So far it sounds like there will be at least one shooter; Megamania, and Tetris (some version or other) seem to be pulling down votes also...
