...Students brought brought stuff to school and get away with it for years like bringing bring sega genesis games to school. I remember a classmate doing that by me seeing the games in that students desk when I was in 5th grade. When I was in high school (1993-1997), Once in a while, staff members looked in back packs, etc. in the front entrence of the school or looked in lockers once in a while. The backpack checks took forever.

As bad as the ds are to bring in schools, there were worse stuff that I heard like students brag about into their lockers like illegal stuff such as bongs back in my days in high school. While I gradurate from high school in 1997, I don't think students changed that much. The way to fix this from the schools end is to check the lockers in middle and high school once a week.

OK, so we're roughly the same age. Yeah, there were kids (I was one of them) with WAY worse stuff on our person and in our lockers than a DS, but there was a distinct difference - we KNEW damn well we weren't supposed to have it there, and there would be hell to pay if we did. Even having a walkman in your bag even if you were just listening to it on the bus or walking home was highly frowned upon. You'd have to have a hell of an excuse or be an A-triple-plus honor student to not have such a thing confiscated, and it's not like I went to a strict private school or anything.

It was just common knowledge that unless it's your school work, your lunch, or your insulin, you weren't supposed to have anything else there. Period. Pagers, cell phones, Game Boys, whatever.

Maybe if schools would actually go back to enforcing rules and not being a glorified tax-subsidized babysitting service, we wouldn't even need to have discussions about kids getting accosted via their DS's.

(I can't believe I'm a hair away from 27 and giving a "in MY day!..." speech. Sad that things have slipped THAT far in a decade)

Well guys, to settle this debate, I looked up my local molester in the state sex offender registry and gave him a ring. He says his buddies use DSs all the time successfully, but myspace is way better. Thus endeth the debate.

Reminds me of the X-Play joke were Adam Sessler pretended to be a nudist in a trenchcoat and was telling people he could play the DS without his hands. I agree though I don't know that the average person got their DS for pictochat I could imagine its the teachers fault anyways for letting the kid chat away on the thing right in the middle of class. I don't see the sense in this journalists argument.
