I have always been one to say if there is nothing "technically" stoping you from doing it....GO FOR IT!

Just curious the megacorp closing it down doesn't happen to be Gamestop does it?

I'd say don't. If you can't/won't spend 600 dollars how are you going to buy back games for the 360 or buy new games for the PS3? If you do this you'll have 3 systems with at most 2 games. I'd keep all the games for the systems you've got until prices come down.

Well.. first i would calculate how much these game would cost me if i buy them right now, used or new (you can get them used in "as-new" condition too since all games are fairly new). Then i would consider how much i really play the 10 games, maybe you only "need" 2-3 of them. I would definitly do it, the PS3 is worth more than the 10 games, im sure of it.

Im not sure the PS3 will still be $600 in a year tho, depends on what happends when the good games comes out. As i wrote in another thread, japanese retailers have already slashed the PS3 price with 20%.

I'd go ahead and do it. If you aren't playing them right now, and they are just going to sit on the shelf, why not?

...but I know for a fact that I'll be able to buy any of these titles for 15-20 bucks in a little over a year.
This is very true. Which makes me feel horrible for spending an extra $40-$45 to be an "early adopter."

Would you be interested in selling any of the 360 games outright? If so, PM me...

    [QUOTE=agbulls;1120078]Its not illegal---its just breaking the store's return policy.[QUOTE]

Which could be considered fraud/theft. I'm not passing judgement or anything -- but just giving you a heads-up. I worked security for a while and most of the people we had arrested were not "outright" shoplifters, but people that tried pulling similar "tricks" such as this. I'm not saying that you'll be thrown in jail or anything, but I'm sure if a manager or security person caught wind of this, I'm pretty sure it would end up being more of a hassle than it's worth.

    Default hmmmm...

No brainer. Get the 60GB model. Keep Oblivion (expansion is coming). You may only find a few games to play on the PS3 for a little while, but if you have any PS1/PS2 games to catch up on it's a catch. If you can get a good picture on your set than the Blu-Ray is awesome, though adding a HD-DVD drive to the 360 is of course not too expensive...

Make sure you download the Full HD trailer for 300 Spartans when you hook up the PS3...best thing on the PS3 at the moment.

Also keep in mind that the first Playstation models Sony releases tend to stop working after awhile. Keep your games, and start saving your money for the third model.

Bit of free legal advice. It is illegal. You are committing a fraudulent misrepresentation. Any money you get from returning those games will be stolen property, as will anything you buy with that money.

I am just curious how you came to these legal conclusions, 1) that it is fraudulent misrepresentation, and 2) that any products he buys with credit or money he receives is stolen property? Neither one adds up.

A fraudulent misrepresentation is a false statement of fact made by one party to another party and has the effect of inducing that party into the contract. Fraudulent misrepresentation is not even a criminal act, but rather part of contract law. Besides, what is the false statement being made, and who is making it?

Moreover, what has been stolen? The store has received its items back and the consumer has received his money back. He could take his money and walk out of the store for all we know. What I think is going on here is that he is probably receiving in-store credit. Still, it does not constitute stolen property. Neither does whatever purchases with it.

Now, I don't know Illinos criminal law, but what we are probably looking at is RETAIL FRAUD. Retail fraud involves the theft of merchandise, including price switching or attempting to obtain a fraudulent refund. What this means may vary, but I would be inclined to think it is someone returning stolen property for a refund, but I could be wrong and it may apply to your situation as well. I say this because Retail fraud is a crime of theft, requiring proof that the item was intentionally stolen. I am not sure if this is the case here, especially since nothing is being stolen; however, as I am unfamiliar with Illinois criminal law, I am not 100% sure. You may want to go to your State Govenment's website and search in the Legislature section using keywords "retail fraud", or even consult an attorney. I am sure it is something they could answer over the phone. Just don't tell them you are thinking about doing it, because if it is a crime they cannot advise you as their Professional Rules prevent them from helping you perpetrate a crime.

Cmmitting retail fraud can lead to a felony conviction of up to five year's imprisonment in most jurisdictions, depending on the value of the items stolen. Persons convicted of retail fraud can also be subjected to civil penalties demanded by the store in question. Retail fraud penalties can include the full price of the property and civil damages. You could also throw in Conspiracy or Concert of Action since the you are getting the employees involved as well. But you can't have either, unless there is an underlying crime, i.e. Retail Fraud.

Suffice it to say, I decided this was not a good idea. I don't like putting myself at risk for no reason. Thanks for all the advice---really made me think twice about making a bad decision.
