Origin and meaning of the Yashici?

You know..the little symbol Capcom used to put in it's games as a bonus icon.

What does "yashici" mean? Does the meaning/ name correlate with the image itself? And what was the original use of the symbol (ie; first game)?

Do they still put it in games?

It's in Vulgus (first Capcom game) and Son Son (first Capcom game released in the US) as a bonus item of substantial value.

Can't be a mistake that the Umbrella logo is so similar to it, of course.

Beyond that, I have no idea. I'd be interested to know as well.
