Default Sin & Punishment - Actual Value?

Hey Digital Press import fans. Here's a good question: How much is Sin & Punishment really worth? People always talk about its super-rarity. But is it really all that rare? I'm on eBay, and I can pretty easily get complete copies shipped to my house for sixty bucks. Which raises another question - Are these eBay copies bootlegs? A lot come from Hong Kong.

Cure me of this ignorance, Digital Press. I want hot, sexy, explosive Treasure action. I just don't want to pay money for a bootleg.

I got a brand new copy in mint condition from McVans a few years ago for $60 or $70. I can't comment on the value but it's a great game.

I'm not an N64 collector, but I'm pretty sure S&P is another one of those hype-inflated games like Radiant Silvergun, Rakugaki Showtime, and Tengen Tetris.
As for the bootleg issue, I haven't heard of people bootlegging N64 games, but I wouldn't be surprised, though it seems like it would be a more expensive and less profitable venture than bootlegging CD based games.

It's not even expensive at all, not like Radiant Silvergun and the like. Proof? I picked several new and sealed copies at a collector's shop for 2000 yen. I think whatever price cachet it has exits in the west only.

It does also exist for the Nintendo iQue player as well (got it also).

As far as N64 boots -- not sure if there are any actualy bootleg cartridges out there, but pirate shops selling N64 rom collections and emulators to play them on are ubiquitous in Asia.

It's not very rare... it didn't do well at retail in Japan so there are still sealed games to be found easily. Japanese players take better care of their games than do Americans (in general) so even a used copy is probably in great condition.

I doubt it was pirated... it came out so late. I've seen pirated N64 games but they have been earlier titles. I think it was just to expensive to make pirated N64 carts in any great quantity.

It's WAY worth $60 just for the gameplay alone but you can probably get it for less.

Sealed? SFC and N64 games were never shrinkwrapped. They'll just be good condition second hand copies.

Well, if you got a really good eye for it, it's possible to tell if the flap has ever been opened. If not, you obviously got a brand new copy.

I paid about $35 or so for mine when I snagged it a couple years ago. I'd say if you can get one for $50 or less you're not overpaying. It'll probably continue to sell for around $60 for a while though, unless the market gets flooded. A VERY VERY good game I might add.

Good point, I guess I should have said "brand new, shrinkwrapped". Seems most Japanese shops shrink their boxes, even if they weren't so originally -- better than putting a sticker on a carboard box, right?. Anyway, they were clearly unopened (and marked as new on the tag).

Thank you DP for this info. If anyone goes to Japan and can snag me a complete copy, I would thankfully pay $40 or so.

Or you could charge me $60. Whatever. Thanks for clearing up the questions.
