I have been thinking about getting a subscription, but had a few questions.
Is this magazine still going?
Is the material in it good and worth th $2 an issue?
I would love to know what people think about this.

I'd say the material is about on par with the material you get on Digital Press' main site. It's certainly interesting reading, and is a damn fine bathroom companion.
Well, to respond to your question: yes, it is still going, although I dunno when Arcade Antics (our editor-in-chief) will publish the next issue (hint hint, Dave...). But it's been going for 15 years now and it still exists, which is quite an achievement in the world of zines.
To be honest, I cancelled my subscription after a year. There really wasn't anything exceptional about it and there are plenty of real magazines you can get for less than $2 an issue. It's longevity is impressive though...

I'm pretty sure everything I've written for the zine is exclusive. Of course there are a lot of reviews and some of them find their way to the website, but I'm pretty sure all the articles and letters to the editor and all that stuff remain in the zine.
I enjoy it for the old school feel, plus I love having issues lying around when friends come over.
I've never read a copy of the magazine but at $2 per issue, there is very little risk. There are much worse things you could invest in at that price. If you're already thinking about it, you might as well go ahead and try it out. You've got me thinking about subscribing now. I've got so many things I am interested in picking up that I never got around to subscribing, it was never a matter of whether or not I thought it was worth the money.
By the way, it shouldn't matter whether or not the material is exclusive
There is rarity information from the DP Guides, which are sold on this page, that can be found right here on the web site but everybody here knows it doesn't stop someone from investing in a printed copy.
I completely disagree with you. I do think it is exceptional and it is a "real" magazine. I would encourage you go and do the same thing I've been doing, which is to go back and read every issue from the very beginning. The first 50 issues are available on CD-ROM. I bound my hard copies together in 10 and 5-issue chunks and had a blast lounging in my backyard (when it was warmer, up until fairly recently) reading them.
Flack hit the nail on the head, they've got an "old school" charm to them, and I like the stream-of-consciousness, take-no-prisoners approach they take. They can write and cover anything they feel like, whereas newsstand magazines have to conform to certain restrictions. Every system is covered at some point, and they effortlessly weave back and forth through all eras of videogaming.
Because of reading the print version, I've been able to discover games I'd never even heard of. When I read those issues, especially the older ones, I really feel like I'm there with that group of guys, hanging out. It has a more intimate feel, and it resonates with me. I vastly prefer it to any newsstand magazine. It's fun to see what they were into that month (in the time period I'm up to now (the mid-20's issues), they were really diggin' the 3DO).
Give it another shot.
