Dreamcast in VGA on HDTV?

I have been interested in seeing the dreamcast in VGA, And Since I have found out that some HDTVs accept VGA, Would it look any better in VGA (On HDTV) Over a computer monitor?

I'd wager it would look better on the VGA monitor, since you wouldn't have to deal with the TV scaling up from 480p to its native resolution. Plus you won't have any image processing lag.

It would look slighty better on the computer monitor, but not a huge difference at all. Also, since computer monitors don't get much bigger than 21", it can look way more impressive on a big HDTV. Also, you don't absolutely need to have a HDTV with a VGA input either. You can spend about $90 (Ebay) and get a Audio Authority 9A60 adapter that will transcode the 640 x 480 VGA signal to 480p that your HDTV can understand via component. I've been using one of these devices with my Dreamcast and various HDTV's that lack VGA inputs, and the results have been outstanding.

Also, rather off topic, But how can I Output the sound to my Amp? I don't want to be listening to the music in Jet Grind Radio through the HDTV's speakers, That would be awful. Could I just use the VGA box for the video, And at the same time use the Composite cable for Audio but Not video?

I have never tried it on my CPU monitor, but I guess it might look a bit better. I have an original Sega VGA box hooked up to my 52" HD and looks great.

Normally, the various Dreamcast VGA box things, also have an audio output. The audio output is normally one of those mini microphone jacks, like for use with a computer or computer speakers, but all you need is a little adapter from radio shack for a couple of bucks that has that kind of plug and then on the other end it has your normal red and white, rca style audio jacks on it.

A few years back when my family got our LCD HDTV, most of the HDTVs had VGA inputs. Today, I guess maybe about half do, it seems not as many do anymore.

Anyways, I have despretly wanted to get a VGA adaptor for my DC and talk my parents, or my dad actually as my mom wouldnt care, into letting me hook it up to the HD so I could play SonicAdventure:LE, lol.

I have nvr has a VGA adaptor for my DC, but we have hooked our family PC up to our HD a few times for fun, you know, just cause we can, because most HDTVs are just giant widescreened computer monitors that have the built-in ability to acept other signals like RCA, Componet, RGB, Composit, and sometimes more along with (on our HD at least) VGA.

Our computer looked super great on the big HD we got, and the 5.1 surround sound home theater my dad hooked up made it even better, lol.

I checked my partner's new HDTV (damn that thing is awesome) and found it has the correct hookup so I went online and bought the cable. I'll run it through the the TV and through the home theatre system. I'll let you know how it turns out...
