Famiclone question

About 2 months ago, I bought a Yobo famiclone off of ebay for 25$. When I bought it, I assumed it played famicom carts as well as nes carts. Yesterday, I bought a Power-Joy PJ-008 cart at a local thrift store. The cart doesn't fit into my Yobo.
From what I understand, the pj-008 is a famicom pirated cart, which probably is about the same size/fit of an official famicom cart. This has me worried, will any famicom carts fit into my Yobo? Does the Yobo famiclone play famicom carts? Whats with my PJ-008? Thanks for the input.

The Yobo is a Famiclone that plays NES cartridges. NES cartridges have 72 pins, Famicom cartridges have 60. So...

It's a pirate Famicom cart, not an NES cartridge.

You have to use a Famicom to NES converter to allow play of Famicom cartridges in your NES (or in this case, your Yobo Famiclone). People don't buy Yobo's to play Famicom carts, they purchase them because they're cheaper than top loading NES systems. Over at my site (click the www button) at David's Video Game Insanity, under editorials, you'll see an editorial about building your own Famicom to NES converter. Other than that, you can always check around eBay for aftermarket converters but that editorial should at the very least give you more information.

You can crack open early Christmas 1985 NES games to get a 72-to-60 pin convertor to play famicom games on your yobo. I know some copies of gyromite have them.

Wait... I've got a Yobo Famiclone that plays Famicom games. I bought it at CGE, and it came with a converter to play NES games on it. What model is yours?

The one I've got is OT-8008, and says on the package "FC GAME CONSOLE," so maybe you've just got the wrong model...? Maybe a pic would be helpful?

It says FC Game Console on the box, it's item number OT-8008. It says that it plays jap and us games, no converter came with it, unless it's built in. Im kinda pissed now, thats one of the only reasons I bought it. Does the Messiah NEX play the jap carts?

On a website I read that reviewed the Yobo said that the early model Yobo famiclones came with a cartridge converter, and that the newer ones boasted a built-in converter. wtf, so mine should be able to play the jap carts, because I KNOW a converter didnt come with the console.

I don't see how there could be a built in converter; like InsaneDavid said, NES cartridges have 72 pins and Famicom carts have 60, so they can't just be plugged into the same slot. You either have to have an adapter or separate slots like the Generation NEX does.

If your system claims to be able to play both, then it should have come wiht an adapter. A 72 pin NES cartridge port on the system with an adapter needed for playing Famicom games is preferable to the other way around, in my opinion since an NES game on a converter plugged into a little lightweight system like the Neo Fami is totally unstable. Of course, that doesn't help you if your system didn't come with the adapter.

Yeah, I don't see how it would have a built-in converter (or why it would have one), it should just play Fami games out of the box. It's the same model as mine, so I don't quite understand why it wouldn't... and it doesn't play NES games without a converter (as is typical), only Fami games.

Maybe yours is just broke. *shrug*
