Default Suggest games for my wife and I.

One thing I think would be really great is if I could find the perfect game for my wife and I to play together.

Not something like Super Smash Bros, etc, where there is a pretty high level of competition, but something with cooperation.

For instance, there's this PC game called Mystery Cases: Hunstville, where you get a picture of a really messy room with TONS of hidden images (think Highlights magazine x 10000), and you have to locate all of them within a certain amount of time. It sounds silly, but to sit there side by side and work together to figure it out was a blast.

I got that Cookies & Cream PS2 game, but it led to more frustration than joy. It was fun, but the jumping was a bit much for her. And she got all 300 monkeys in Ape Escape 2 and caught Specter, so she's no slouch.

She loved Katamari Damacy, Animal Crossing (that was a good one for us), and Sim City. Mario 3, etc, are right up her alley too. And puzzle games like Dr. Mario.

Recently we bought Ape Escape 1 and have been passing the controller back and forth after catching each monkey, which has been pretty fun, but not nearly as fun as cooperating in that mystery searching game I mentioned above.

So, anybody have any suggestions? It's surprisingly specific, the kind of game I'm looking for...

    Good luck, and thanks!

As soon as you said cooperative, I was going to mention Cookies and Cream, but I see you've already played that.

How about Splinter Cell Chaos Theory? That has co-op play. The other Splinter Cell games don't.

If you want something old school, Secret of Mana is a great co-op action RPG, too.

Running with Tetris, try The Next Tetris on the original PlayStation - a version has yet to eclipse it. It's one of the versions that uses the break apart / chain reaction type of Tetris but stays true to the original. Has remixes of most of the classic Tetris tunes, a rank up/down system that adjusts the level / starting height of each player, keeps stats via name registration, and so forth. Large chain reactions cause your opponent's screen to do things like become invisable, spin upside down, etc. The objective is to remove some staggered blocks that reside at the bottom of the well before your opponent can get rid of theirs. The height of the removal blocks is based upon level which is based upon your ranking.

My girlfriend loved watching me beat from beginning to end Resident Evils 1, 2, and 4 on the Gamecube, it was a daily evening event for a while

Together we've played alot of Mario Kart on the 64, Bubble Bobble on the NES, took turns at Simcity 3000 on the PC, she used to watch me play both 64 Zelda's, played both Katamari's, Animal Crossing on the cube, the Sims on the PC, and we played a ton of Grand Theft Auto, all three on the PS2. Oh and Yoshi's Island on the SNES was great too. I couldn't get her into any traditional RPG's though.

I'd recommend you guys play any of those games that you haven't tried yet, we had a blast

EDIT: 1 more, and very important too. The New Tetris for the 64.

My (now) ex-wife and I used to play Mario Bros in co-op mode, on 2600. Not too difficult for two either.

Your wife is more of a gamer than mine is but we have a lot of fun playing co-op lightgun shooters. Our fav arcade games to play together is that firefighting one where you each have a hose & the Jurassic Park sit-in booth. Good times. We havent played any lightgun games at home together so I cant reccomend any but if you havent tried a moden co-op lightgun shooter, I bet you two would enjoy it.

    Good luck, and thanks!

I've always found that interesting that my wife and daughter prefered games
of cooperation, whereas my son and I prefered competition. And I share your
frustration with Cookies & Cream. It seems my wife can't jump for crap
either! But, I have to admit it was the music sections that really did us
in. Maybe we're both tone deaf or something, because we couldn't reproduce
those notes for the life of us!

Here's some co-op games you might check into...

    Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1&2
    Champions of Norrath 1&2
    X-Men Legends 1&2
Gauntlet Dark Legacy & Seven Sorrows
    Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel
    Dungeons & Dragons Heroes

Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance 1 and 2, Champions of Norrath 1 and 2 and Some D&D game on the XBox were games my girlfriend and I enjoyed playing.
Harvest moon might also be a nice little game, although you can't really play cooperatively.
Have you tried the Zelda series? Especially in some of the tricky dungeons, we had loads of fun trying to figure out the puzzles together...

    Zombies Ate My Neighbors (SNES)
    Secret of Mana (SNES)

I'd try those, they're both great.

Then, Try Adventure of Lolo (NES) with her, see if you too could figure out the puzzles together.

The ladies generally seem to go for puzzlers in my experience. I recommend Bust A Move or Klax, both available in MAME or other formats. Both games have split-screen competition, which imho is better than cooperative games with the spouse. Bust A Move especially seems to resonate with XX types.

Mrs. Pan has taken the most bizarre liking lately to Donkey Kong on my MAME cab. It's the damndest thing. She plays for 30 to 60 minutes a day and this has evolved into an ongoing household hi-score competition (which I am currently winning ). I mention this only because it's worth noting that there might be something from the old school that might appeal to your wife moreso than newer titles. It;s worth investigating either way.
