Let's see, in terms of profiteering...
I picked up more than a few copies of Suikoden 3 at 30 bucks, completely unaware that the reason it was in stock at my local Toys R Us was that it had just been reprinted.
Same story with Xenogears... and what's worse, had I held on to them a little longer, I wouldn't have taken such a bath! This was, of course, after getting railed on an eBay auction for the Xenogears Perfect Works art book only to see the price bottom out. Factoring in the 3 hours I wasted totally lost in the "sewers" because I'm STUPID... I'd have to say it doesn't bring back the greatest of memories.
I picked up more than a few copies of Silhouette Mirage... can't see that price ever rising above 10 bucks - dead weight in my closet. Same with Bangai-o.
As for personal purchases, I remember nabbing Shadow Madness the day it was released. I... I liked the music! Had I waited, like, a month I could've saved 40 bucks.
I'll never forget picking up Castlevania: SotN and FFT at Software Etc for 55 bucks a piece on release and finding them at Best Buy 20 bucks cheaper the next day, either. Divine punishment for not shopping around...
Power Moves was prehaps the most asstacular fighting game ever. And I had the misfortune of buying the turd.Originally Posted by ManekiNeko

The best 2D and 2.5D video games.
Spending $15 on a loose Super Mario 64 shortly after I got my N64 earlier this year. A couple months after this purchase, I saw two copies for $5 each. A month after that, I saw one for $4.99 at a pawn shop. Each cart in as good condition as the one I blew $15 on.
Yeah, it's a great game, but if I had waited a couple months, I could have saved $10. After that, I vowed not to spend more than $10 on any N64 game, and less if possible. However, I made an exception when I came across a loose Paper Mario for $20, and I'll bend the rules when I come across Harvest Moon 64, but that's it.
Then there was the $1.49 purchase of Nanotek Warrior for the Playstation at an EB. It was complete but the disc was covered in rental stickers and I got bored with the game 10 minutes. Might as well have spent that $1.49 on a burger or soda or something.
I'm stillnot so sure about Bangai-O... it did have a low print run, and the DC hasn't been dead long enough to see the prices go up on it. There's still hope, my profiteering friend!Originally Posted by Nick Goracke

I sold my copy of Mystic Defender for the Genesis for $2, and now I can't find it for less than $7.
I bought Soul Calibur used at Gamestop for the DC. I payed $25. It had a hairline crack, within a week, it split completely in half.
I spent $10 at goodwill for a genesis 2, it was broken. (goodwill here seems to be very pricy, several stores actually)

fifty for an import soul calibur 2 with freeloarder for gamecube. dunno what i was thinking.
To make up for that I got the limited edition guiide with soundtrack and poster when it was pennied out at gamestop.
It is pitch black. If you continue you are likely to be eaten by a grue.
Talk about "slipped my mind". That was in February of 2003 and I"m finally here to answer it (thanks Castelak!)Originally Posted by digitalpress
Someone guessed it - it was that 3DO purchase on the system's launch day. There I was, all proud of myself, blowing the whole paycheck on this system that was going to be GREAT FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE. And playing Crash 'n Burn for the next two months until something else even came out for it. By '97 you could buy the same unit, which I paid $700 for, for about fifty bucks.
Now that I see some people are willing to pay insane prices for a Neo Geo AES Gold System, I don't feel quite SO bad about paying $650 for it (came with Baseball Stars Pro 2 and Fatal Fury 2 US versions, meh). Still about $100 too much.
My greatest error was without a doubt paying $233 for a copy of Akmajo Dracula x68000. It did come with a vintage dead spider underneath the plastic tray; still wonder if that was a Spanish spider or a Japanese one LOL
The game wasn't in terribly great shape - not bad by any means, but there is a lot of wear on the sides. Later I would go purchase a MINTY copy for $199; and NOW I know where to buy a pretty good copy for $70.
Another error of mine would be having put off buying the US version of Castlevania Chronicles for so long; now you can't find the damn thing for less than $50 new!
Buying a game boy color a year after they came out. I had lost my game boy pocket for about 6 months and I was looking for a replacement. So I purchased a purple GBC and lo and behold my Dad found my GBP the next weak.

Heh, don't feel too bad. The Color was awesome when it came out (well, I thought so, anyway!)
I saw a really beat up one for $10 this summer a little ways down the road from my house. Didn't buy it.
i saw NES Flintstones The Surprise At Dinosaur Peak box and cart for $20. I didn't know if this was the rare flintstone game, or the common one. i went to get my DP guide and went back, and the game was already gone. i feel very very dumb for not buying this one.

Well, I can't beat Joe for his 3DO purchase (that had to hurt), but the biggest mistake I made was...
Purchasing a Power Lords cartridge for $250. Doesn't sound bad at first, but I was not smart enough at the time to verify that it was actually 'Power Lords.' What I got in the mail was 'Serpente do Poder' - or the Brazil version of 'Power Lords.' Ouch!!!!! I Was mad as hell, but the bastard that sold me the cartridge insisted it was still Power Lords, no matter what the box and manual looked like. Argued like hell for a bit, but since it was a private sale, there wasn't much I could do about it. Just suck it up and deal with it.
Lesson learned - when paying for a high price item, ask every question possible. What is it, where was it made, what language, etc., etc. (and biggest question, does it actually work!). Shouldn't have to do this, but in the world of ebay and such, you have to...![]()

Ozyr's Odyssey2 Archive!
The week I started collecting, I thought 2600's were sooo rare.
60 bucks for a 2600 Jr.![]()
I dunno, I can't think of anything that I truly regret to be honest.
Sure, I paid 50 for Shenmue II on xbox, and it's now what, 10 bucks? I don't care, it's a great game and I do my best to support Shenmue when i can, because I would like to see the story get told to completion. I'll be playing the MMO if we get it as well.
I also paid 50 for PSI I&II for xbox, and then had to go pay another 50 to get a live kit so I could play it. Honestly, I've got my money out of that game too. I paid more than i should have maybe...but damn I love PSO.
Other than those, I never have the cash to be making mistakes, so I'm damn careful with what I buy. If I think of anything I'll come back here though...
I live in mexico. But I spent 8 days in Xmas 2004 in Michigan, visiting my girlfriend.
From the first day I had a mission: Buying a Nintendo DS. I was a huge gameboy fan since 1990, and the GBA is one of my favorite systems..so i thought nobody could go wrong.
To make a long story a little shorter, i visited around 40 stores in 8 days trying to find a DS system...it was sold out everywhere...until the last day I finally found it on a Circuit city. I bought my DS console + mario 64 + Feel the Magic.
The thrill of having the DS lasted for around 24 hours...then I noticed how mario 64 is the same game I played on 1996 (somehow I thought I´d enjoy it the same way I did back in 1996). Feel the Magic was OK,,,I bought it because I read it was similar to Wario Ware, but somehow I enojyed Wario Ware MUCH MORE.
SO basically I spent 3 or 4 months wishing to get a PSP; until I finally sold the DS. I will NEVER buy a DS again.
This is a little different since instead of overpaying, I accepted too little for something.
I used to be a very dedicated PC gamer, and I kept all the boxes, instructions, and original pack-ins for every game I had. And that was a lot of games dating from the early 80's to the mid nineties. So, I'm in college around '93 or '94, and I want money for pizza, beer, and weed. Do I need to say anything else?
I wasn't a collector then, but they did have sentimental value that I should have considered. I posted signs up all over campus, but nobody responded, so I ended up just giving everything to some guy down the hall for 50 dollars.
So, what was in the collection? Well over 100 complete games.. A complete set of Infocom games with all the original packaging and doodads including an almost complete run of the New Zork Times/Status Line, which probably just got tossed. Every Sierra adventure game, nearly every Micrprose published title, my favorite rpg's like the Magic Candle series, Wasteland, Starflight, Hard Nova, and many others. Also in the mix were early EA releases like MULE, Archon, and Seven Cities of Gold. All the Cinemaware games. The list goes on; I don't want to write a huge post listing everything I can think of.
I just drank, smoked, pissed, and barfed them all away in a night. It wasn't even a night that stood out.
Wow, I mean some of these are a bit ridiculous some a bit stupid but I'm not sure that any of these measure up to some of my retarted buys.
1 on the list is a doll from Lunar of the pale white guy (cant even remember his name ne more lol want to say Gandalf) for $55 about a yr ago in a used game store(got on ebay saw it for about 6 bucks).
2 is when I way way way over bidded for a box of 30 empty playstation game cases...no need to say how much i paid. the point is when I read it I left out the key word.....empty
No need to go on. as kelso would say. i'm the king.
Unlimited saga. it wasn't even worth worth the $10 i paid for it. and to me $10 is usually a good price for any ames
12 US SMS games to go
74 US DC games to go

For some reason I bought Need For Speed: Underground on the PS2It was £8 second hand.
I sort of regret getting F-Zero for the snes but it was only £2.50
Paid 157$ for a 500-in-1 Famicom multicart 7 or 8 years ago on eBay...back then they were rare, now they are worth hardly anything...
Also spent around 250$ 7 years ago on a Famicom Disk System...now they go for 50-100$.

I'm always looking for new boxed NES accessories. If you've got any for sale, shoot me a PM!
I spent $100+ shipping for the Saturn version of Time Bokohan due to a stupid bidding war.![]()
The $350 I spent on the Sony PSP, and 3 games (Lumines, THUG, Metal Gear Acid) on launch day. I haven't played my PSP since the day after I bought it, and am seriously close to selling it.
Sony, realease some damn games already! GOOD ONES!
Sports Talk Football 93 starring Joe Montana.
Why I bought two.... I don't know.... but it was three dollars I will never get back...... DAMN YOU ELECTRONIC ARTS!
When I paid $629 after shipping for my PSP+Ridge Racers from lik-sang on launch day.
I loved the system... when it was exclusive to me and my coworkers who ran out and bought them online after seeing how awesome it is.
I havent used it in a few months, and although I sold my first ds for what I paid for it, and got another one, I'm playing the DS way more than the psp.
And to top it off, I had 1.0 firmware which I upgraded to 1.5 for russian support. So I could have sold it for $350ish, but NO luck. Oh well![]()
