I have never met up with a hardcore Gameboy collector, I am not talking about having 5 or ten complete GBA games, I am talking about being a hardcore gameboy collector with at least a hundred GB games..just wondering.

Looking to sell a videogame magazine collection of 200(+) magazines, 60 cents each, send me a PM if you're interested!
The great thing about the Gameboy is that there so many games have been released over the years; you may find yourself a minor collector by just tracking down your favorites.
I would think that GB collecting would be a big thing. If your thrill comes from the treasure hunting, well, there's a ton of treasure to be found there.

i have a bunch of gb games, but i don't really like collecting them, they are so small...they don't display well...
Maybe itīs not a greeeeeeeat LCD screen, but itīs a little great machine with excellent games in my opinionOriginally Posted by nesman85
mh does anyone have infos about pirate/unlicensed gameboy games? a second-hand store here in town has a sachen 4in1 gb cart for 7 without manual or box, is it worth that? is it rare?
i'm not talking about the actual gameboy, i'm talking about the games being small and i can't figure out a way to display them so that they look cool and so i can still see what game it is.Originally Posted by Arqueologia_Digital
I don't know if these are available everywhere...but for my small GB collection (14 games or so) I use something made by SGRL called The Spine (no pics online, and their site isn't in great order right now...) I'll try and get a picture up tomorrow, unless somebody beats me to it...
Basically, you place the carts on this plastic spinner, the titles are reasonably easy to see...multiple spines are stackable (each level looks like a vertabrae...hence the name)...about the only bad thing (for those completists) is that you can't have the box or manual on this thing...
It also, sadly, does not hold GBA carts (I got them before the GBA ever came out...)
I know that Big Lots stores in Ohio carried them last time I checked (the company is based in Ohio...) Hope tis helps a bit...I'll try to get a pic up

I have 7 or 8 Sachen 4 in 1 carts for GB and 1 single game cart. The only place I ever saw them available was United Game Source in Florida and that was about six years ago. They're no longer around and the latest closeout lists I've seen from the former partners don't list them. I think I paid around $8 each new at the time.Originally Posted by hydr0x

GB collecting is just to expensive as it stands right now.. Most are still $10+ and to me many of the titles are not worth $5 even.
See ya Aug 2012. 'I swear I'M NOT DEAD! I'm feeling fine! I'M FEELING HAPPY!'

Me me! Actually the Gameboy was the very first system I ever started collecting. I have about 50+ games and most of them with boxes. I haven't collected much though since I started collecting everything. GB carts are still just too much. And I prefer the box and manual to just the cart.
I actually have a fairly large collection of handheld systems. Right now, I have:
175 Game Boy games (gray carts) about 75% box/manual
111 Game Boy/GBC games (black carts) 100% box/manual
283 Game Boy Color (smoke carts) 100% box/manual
17 GB/GBC rumble games (black or smoke) missing 1 box/manual
44 Game Boy Advance games 100% box/manual
These can be gotten extremely cheap if you check the clearance areas of places like Target, Best Buy or Toys R Us. I've gotten many of them for under $5.00 new.
As far as storage, I have one of those Iris 6-drawer rolling units that I got at Office Depot for $19.99. The drawers are the perfect height for Game Boy games in the plastic storage cases. I have all of the gray and smoke cartridges in cases (the smoke carts have the hump at the top that makes them suck at stacking) and all of the black cartridges are loose. As far as systems go, I have 20 different variants; three originals, 10 pockets, 5 GBC, and 2 GBA units, including a couple of store exclusive colors like Ice Blue and Extreme Green. I've also got a storage tote full of accessories and one of the original Game Boy displays with the black and white monitor.
I also have two small drawer units full of the other stuff I collect.
21 game.com carts, 1 regular unit/2 pocketpro, 100% box/manual
33 Neo Geo Pocket Color, 3 units, 100% box/manual plus a complete 2-unit store shelf display
9 Virtual Boy carts, 1 unit, 100% box/manual
25 Lynx carts, 1 unit, 92% box/manual
89 Game Gear carts, 2 units, about 50% box/manual (many are Majesco reissues).
Very nice lamb...would you sell a NGPC, pm me with price...

Nah...Very nice lamb...would you sell a NGPC, pm me with price...two of the three that I have are attached to the display. While they can be removed, it would make the display unbalanced as well as really ugly
I consider myself a GB "collector," and I have right around 50 games. Not much considering the size of the library, or even compared to those on this board, but its more than anybody I personally know. So I consider myself "hardcore" enough to take on the title of collector.
What is a collection really anyways? Its whatever you make it. If a person has five beanie babies, does that make them a collector? Sure...if the person calls themselves a collector, then in their eyes, they must be. "Collector" is just a relative term to whoever is using it.
To me, there's a difference between an "accumulator" and a "collector." Its easy to accumulate. Its much more difficult to collect.

NES, SNES, & Gameboy Collector
I have 17 Gameboy Games. But i have never really started collecting for it. Its just that i have this systems for 10 years now and i got most of the games for free![]()
However when i ever get a lot of money i would like to do some GBA and Wonderswan Collecting, but that may be far in the future...
Hopefully by now, some of you checked out the Gameboy list that was uploaded Friday. No prices or rarity information yet, but if anyone has any corrections, additions (product id #'s would be great for the 20% of titles I don't have them for) or any other suggestions, feel free to PM or email me.
Note that is list is B&W only releases and does not contain color enhanced games that are B&W compatible. Those will be on the color list that I started and hope to have up in a week or so.
Also, if anyone has a US release not on the list, please let me know the title, manufacturer & product id # so it can be added.
Games that were re-released by different manufacturers are noted in the description instead of taking up a second entry. If anyone has additional re-release information, please let me know.

Get some of those Hockey card binder plastic sheets. GB games fit perfectly in them, and it looks impressive when opened.Originally Posted by nesman85
yep.
I collect portable system games, was into getting gameboy games a few months ago. I probably have about 100 regular b/w gameboy games, mostly cart only. I actually don't care much about boxes as they take up too much room and get damaged easily.
Anyone know when the rarity/prices of the gameboy games in the rarity list will be up? I'm looking forward to that.
I started work on it this past week and should have a first pass done by the end of next. I started a color list after I sent in the B&W list so I can work on both at the same time.Originally Posted by mmpoole

GB collecting is a tough, expensive market. Most games are in terrible condition with torn labels and pen marks, complete copies are hard to come by, and lots of games suck. But, there are some $40 rarities out there, like that Hello Kitty game (slipped through my fingers! Curses!) and Kid Dracula. All those older titles can fetch between $5 and $15, like the original R-Type, Ninja Turtles, Mega Man, and especially the addictive puzzle games like Alleyway. What pisses me off, and makes collecting much harder, is that Gamestop buys up people's grimy games for pennies and sells them for $15 if they are desirable. So now everyone with copies of Kwirk and Final Fanasy Adventure without labels and covered in dog shit try and sell them for top dollar. If you can put up with these hazards, there's great stuff to be had.
