Default The PSP reaches another milestone: 250 UMD movies now on it!

    http://pspupdates.qj.net/2005/12/250...available.html

The PSP now has at least 250 movies released in UMD format in North America alone.

Portable game player my ass...according to the ESRB there's only 58 games for the PSP. The PSP has almost 5 times as many movies available for it as games!

    What are your thoughts?

They have to do that to keep the format going.

After all, the Xbox and PS2 can play pretty much any DVD ever made...if you buy the playback kit, and here the PSP gives you all that shit right outta the box. It's a freebie, stop bitching!

Also, that 58 games to 250 movies ratio is pretty impressive. Sony has managed to crank out lots of PSP-format movies, but it's interesting that the number of games is a sizable fraction of the amount of movies (which are simply much easier to port over).

Look it's been clear for a while that the PSP isnot a gaming machine, but to be fair it's not a movie player either.

What Sony wanted was a device that could be the center of your portable entertainment universe and they've done just that. The only problem is that instead of succeding on all levels they are instead only what i'd consider average in all areas.

Most games are good, but not great, UMD are interesting, but they're no DVD. The lack the extra's that give you a total experience and i find them quite limiting.

The music play back is solid, but Memorysticks are fucking expensive.

I believe the ESRB list is incomplete.

There were 61 US released PSP games in early november, and my rough estimate now is that number has increased to around 80.

With your reasoning, you could say exactly the same thing about the PS2, Xbox or Xbox 360.

What would you want to bet that there are more than 5x the amount of DVD movies available for those, compared to actual games.... Think it makes them more movie players than game machine?

Yes, but the UMD movies are designed specially for the PSP, whereas DVD movies are more intended for set-top DVD players instead of playback on Xbox/PS2.

UMD movies are way easier to port and release, and most of them are released in much smaller numbers than the games.

Why do we have to keep doing this over and over again?

Xizer, I think that you comments would be more apropriate here.

Well, technically yes, it is free out of the box but you consider what Sony charges for a PSP you really ARE paying for the ability whether you plan on using it or not.

Aye, that's what prevented me from saying that the PSP is in exactly the same situation.

As you say, the PSP tries to be all things.

The "PSP is NOT a gaming machine" is a tired and incorrect line, and needs to go.

I'm glad that Xizer cares enough about the PSP to give us cool news items like this, but he's doing it for the wrong reasons.

Because everyone at AtariAge comes here, right?

FYI: Getting banned at GameFAQs is a piece of cake. The mods there are what we like to refer to as "nazis".

Gamefaqs seems to be the laughing stock of all the gaming forums on the net. Getting banned from that really says a lot about you as a poster.

I lost 3 karma at gamefaqs about a week ago for posting a something about the 360 on the 360 forums but they told me it was off topic and it belonged on the 360 SOCIAL board.

I appealed it and explained how it could fit on either board and they totally ignored everything I said and rejected the appeal. I appealed it to a 2nd mod then a lead mod and both rejected me I coulda appealed to the admin but if you do and they reject you then you lose the right to appeal for 3 months.

I decided to stop at the lead mod since I know the anti-americans would have rejected me.

Funny thing is I saw a topic that was BLATANTLY off topic on gamefaqs the next day and marked it 4 times in 2 d ays and it to this day remains a topic at gamefaqs.

I hate that the rule system over there but I love the forums so I keep going back. They are driving users away though due to the fact that they hate our military and they hate "freedom"
