Default Nolan Bushnell & The Return Of ATARI

Should he put aside this new restaurant venture of his & buy back the "ATARI" name from UbiSoft & start anew?

First release a DVD for all 5 platforms -- Macintosh/PC/GameCube/XBOX/PlayStation 2 -- of every Golden Age [coin-op/console/compact] ATARI game made ....

Then bring ATARI back into the console business next generation ?

ATARI was always on the cutting edge & it'd be perfect!!
Who better than ATARI to give the world what we all want so much .....
    A home VR deck .

    ATARI "Virtuoso" anyone ?

Infogrames owns the ATARI name, not UBI.

There's a better chance of my cock growing fangs and eating me alive than Nolan bushnell doing what you proposed.

Mostly everyone that grew up with Atari knows of the behind the scenes struggles at Atari. Even before they were bought by Warner, Nolan and his crew clashed alot. If Nolan would've had his way, the Atari 2600 we all know and love would be rare as hell. Nolan wanted to discontinue them in 1978.

To me, and most other gamers of the time, Atari will never get rid of the stigma of the Warner and Tramiel years. The Jaguar truly did have promise, but Atari no longer had any clout in the industry at all. Developers just didn't care. Atari is hardly a recognizable a name, today, as it was in the late 70's- early 80's. But as much as I would love to see Nolan revamp the Atari name, I just don't see it happening.

i'd pay $5 to see that...

anyways it would be nice to see a comeback but it isnt going to happen unless theres another major crash to turn things around. personally i rather see Sega get back to the hardware biz. the dreamcast was probably the finest home console to date

Atari had some great ideas back in 1994... Unfortunately, they were ten years ahead of their time. Jaguar VR headset anyone? Nice idea, but was way ahead for the time. And ironically, the Jaguar was their downfall, and they couldn't cut it against the might of Sega / Nintendo and teh newcomers, SONY!

It really would be interesting to see what both Atari AND Panasonic could come up with for a new generation... If the two paired up, along with Sega (Who are also now out of the running), who knows what they could achieve???

Look what Panasonic and Nintendo achieved when they worked together... Ninendo has a virtually inpenatrable secure software medium (Cube discs), and Panasonic produced the "Q"

I am still very surprised that Panasonic have not tried to make a comeback ~ Especially after seeing what a success Sony have made of the PlayStation (Which probably makes most of Sony's money now)

A partnership with either Sega or Atari (Or both) would certainly give Microsoft and Sony a run for their money. With Panasonic producing the hardware, and Atari and Sega as the two main software developers (With others like Ubisoft and EA jumping in), surely they would stand a good chance of dominating the market???

There's no way there'd be a release of every single Golden Age [coin-op/console/compact] ATARI game made being on one compilation... no publisher would EVER go for that. It only makes sense to come out with multiple collections business-wise.

You seem to imply that any component of the original Atari is still alive.

And what's funny is, no one really remembers the original Atari. Most people think 2600 when they think Atari, and as stated above, if the "original Atari" guy would have has his way, it would have been discontinued in 1978.
