Actually, contestants are given all the answers, er questions well in advance. It's all a matter of whether they memorized them all. Also, my understanding is they give you a megashitcraptonload of them, so have no idea what topics will be on the show that you end up on. So, a lot of people on the show aren't really that smart...they just have very good memories.
