Hmm....I think I might pass on this one and just import Taito Memories instead
That would be much better. The US pack is a complete joke. The stuff that I would want it for (if there was a GC version anyway) is missing.

I really wish there was a GC version. I guess I'll just have to buy the Saturn, PCE, etc. versions of the stuff I'm missing. I've already been doing that for some time anyway.

I wouldn't expect much from Taito these days. They used to be among the greatest, but now they might as well not exist.

I just don't like enough PS2 games to take a chance on another one crapping out on me.

Though admittedly that would be cheaper (Mizubaku Daibouken and Elevator Action Returns are not cheap).

If you have a JP PS2 the JP collections are a great deal though.

I'm not disappointed there's no GameCube version. I AM disappointed there's no PSP version. I will never again buy an arcade compilation on a console. It's portable only from now on.

So unless they decide to put a Taito collection on the PSP (And I really REALLY hope they do. I would kill for the arcade version of Bubble Bobble on a handheld.) I say "screw you, Sega and Taito." :/

Still bum out no Elevator Action Returns.

I know i could get it for the Saturn, but if it was on Taito Legends it would be convenient for me.

Or i could just import Taito Memorise and get my PS2 modded.

Again U.S gamers get... screwed every time on domestic release

Can't wait for this one. I am really looking forward to Rastan. I spent so many quarters on this game when I was younger. I heard you have no continues in the last stage of this game. Can anyone confirm this? I never got that far in this game.

Taito Legends is apparently developed by Atomic Planet (according to Atomic Planet's website), the same company that made the Mega Man Anniversary Collection games. Sounds good.

By the way... Taito Legends on the Xbox? It's Mame... MAME.

Even Phoenix has the same "off" sounds. Hell it even uses the same romsets and naming conventions. x_x

From what I've been hearing, the package in the West is actually being developed by a different team to that who did the Japanese releases, and the emulation is crap. Hence it's put a friend of mine right off, as he's been reviewing the PAL Xbox version at the moment. He doesn't have a PS2 (which is the only format the Japanese releases came in) so he's right pissed off at the moment.

Atomic Planet?! Dammit, so much for buying this one. I was actually kind of looking forward to it, too.

The reports of shitty emulation don't surprise me; these are the people who entirely removed Megaman 7's ending on the Anniversary Collection because they couldn't emulate it right. I'd hate to see what they do with Taito's games.

SEGA: Hmm... let's track down one gamer, XYXZYZ, and find out what games he's looking the most forward to. Ahh, Light Bringer and Elevator Action Returns? Good. Cancel Light Bringer and Elevator Action Returns!

How can you kill something that wasn't planned to be on here in the first place? Those games were on no list I've seen since this title was first announced. Hope for a second volume (Which makes sense seeing as stuff like Qix is missing here).

i'm assuming if it sells well here, we'll see most of the japanese-released titles on a second or third installment. its still a great deal for $20. the only thing i'm worried about is the mentioned rom-accuracy.

Is it just me or there's a resurgence of classic compilations? I tried to get Capcom Classic Collection from my local TRU for buy 2 get one free sale, sold out. From Midway Arcade, Capcom, Tecmo, now Taito, any other compilations in the making?

This one and Mega Man X Collection is it for now, though I'm sure we'll see another round of them next fall.

Finally, a decent version of PHOENIX (I'll avoid saying arcade-perfect as we all know how these things go.)

I'd say the same for Elevator Action, but it's hidden on Elevator Action Returns for Saturn.

No, if I could just play VANGUARD i'd be happy.

    gah.

Ouch. No darius. No Elevator Action Returns, no Bust A Move, no GROWL. I might pass on this one.

I'm still getting it for sure (Bubble Bobble, Rainbow Islands, and Super Qix pretty much sell it for me) though the exclusion of Pulirula and the Darius games is dissapointing. Oh well, hopefuly we'll get a volume 2.

I'm definitely going to go ahead and get the U.S. version, and I was thinking about getting the two Japanese Taito Memories imports as well... before I did that (and either modify my PS2 somehow or buy a Japanese Ps2), I'd like to know how many of those games are on MAME. Anybody know offhand? If there are a significant number from each that aren't on MAME (or even just a couple of really good ones each), I'll go ahead and order both imports. (The romset and version of MAME I'm using is from around June 2003.)

Follow-up post. When I got home after work today, I checked the list of games in the two Japanese Taito Memories compilations against what I had in MAME. It seems almost all of them are emulated in MAME, and the few I didn't have seem to be in later versions (I hope to get an XBox with the latest version of MAME soon). So there are probably only a couple that aren't on MAME.

Bottom line--can anyone who has bought these two compilations tell me if it's worth it or not? (Not only would I spend $100 on two games but also a fair amount either doing something to my PS2 or getting a Japanese one.) Is the emulation of the games smoother and more accurate than MAME? Is it worth it for all the extra bells and whistles (if they're there)? For example, I've got all the Namco Museums for the PS1 and they're worth having (despite being able to play all the games in MAME) because of the cool 3-D Museum and extra info; likewise, the "Arcade's Greatest Hits" series is equally cool because of the video interview snippets. But if there's nothing extra to be had on these discs--if it's just a straight-up compilation of games--then it would seem not to be worth it. (Last week, in a fit of giddiness, I did go ahead and order Taito Memories Gekan from Lik-Sang. Ack! I may very well go ahead and turn around and resell it just to break even.)

Taito Legends finally came out this week. Got my copy yesterday and I can say this is one of the best classic compilations I've ever played. Crammed full of great games and some nice sleepers that I've never played before either (Electric Yo-Yo, Gladiator). What sold me was that Zoo Keeper is included on it which I believe marks the first time this game has been released on a home console.

Another thing I love about this game is that it has virtually no loading times at all (at least for the Xbox version, I don't know anything about the PS2). There is a load screen that last a couple seconds when you turn the game on, but after that all the games load up almost instantly. You don't see any load screens when backing out of games either.

I thought using the Controller S would be awkward for the light gun games like Operation Wolf and Space Gun but they are very easy to play with them. Cursors move around at just the right speed. Not too slow, not too fast.

My only complaint is that there is no scoreboards feature for Live. It's not a big deal but it would have been nice to have. Regardless, this compilation is an incredible deal at only $20. Buy it now!
