    Default Display/Storage of your collections

Hello all, I've got a fair sized collection of games across most of the classic systems, and I've seen many of the photos of gamesrooms that you good people have posted.

My quandry is finding a way to get all my carts and such out of boxes and into a display or better storage medium to make them more accessible to play, and to show them off a little

I'd appreciate any info you could all share about how you've done it.

Did you buy prefab bookcases/tape holders etc.. and use those?
    Did you build your own?
How did you manage things like INty for example, where you might have boxed complete games and carts w/ overlays or manuals....how'd you get everything to work out where you'd display them together.

I'd appreciate some inspiration, and I'd be more than willing to post pics of the results.
Thanks in advance for the ideas.

P.s. Incidentally, right now my carts for Coleco, Atari and Inty are all kept in the large 5000 count boxes used for sports cards.
They are almost perfect for the application w/ only the Coleco carts being wider, pose a little problem.

There are a few ways I do it. Loose carts go in these nice cd cabinets from Ikea (I now have 4 full)

I also make cheap shelves out of some sort of Galvanized Steel Concrete mold or something. They are 10 feet long and Like 2 bucks each. Cheap shelving.

    They work well for now.

Great idea on that steel mold But will they rust real easy in high humidity area?

In my room, I took over the top of my dresser as TV stand and threw in a couple cheap shoe shelves next to the TV for some consoles.

those unpainted pine CD shelves work pretty well for most loose carts, cassette tape holders are perfect for genesis and SMS games. the real problem carts are loose jaguar and superfami, the beveled edges make easy stacking impossible.

I have been using the steel molds now for about 8 years and all I do is whipe them down when you first get them to get the oil off. I have not noticed any problems. You can use a few for a wide shelf. I find 2 is good for boxed games. 2 times 4 bucks = 10 feet of storage.

I've always used the stackable Rubbermaid/Sterilite plastic containers. They come in every size you'd like, and are really pretty durable. I have two rooms filled with them, and not only is my collection relatively kept in order (I can find just about any game in less than a minute), but they look pretty cool lining the walls.

I use the cheap particle board prefab bookcases. Eventually I plan to use wall shelving for a better display area..but not until I own a house.

I use wall mounted shelving. The stuff where you buy the rails, then place the shelf arms into them. I use melamine shelving (the cheapest stuff they sell at Home Depot) of various lengths and widths. Most recently I bought 8 5ft shelves from them for $3.00 CDN each.

Your picture looks like one awsome swapmeet score! I'll give you 30 bucks for the pile of old games. You drive a hard bargain..okay 45 bucks.

This is a $3.99 small temp cat carrier:

    www.heavybox.com/cc.jpg

holds 94 NES carts(only) tightly, top can be folded down or assembles up as a handle, perfect for carrying.
