There's barely any difference in what already can be done with the current consoles!

Actually, give the current consoles a couple more years of developers tapping into the xbox/gamecube/ps2's graphics and I'm sure you can get these kind of graphics from them.

Screw this, I'm perfectly happy with my current systems. I'm not giving microsoft 300.00 for a slight graphics upgrade.

I totally agree, even though I am a graphics whore, I am at the point where these small changes aren't worth the money. The big changes in graphics from older generation consoles to modern consoles where really obvious, but this really isn't. I think the major selling point of the new xbox is that fact that is going to be a an online media center instead of just a console.

I'm quite certain that once we get to see some footage of these games in action it's going to be quite impressive. Those aren't the highest quality scans, but they hint at some pretty impressive levels of detail. Every console from the NES on could have kept pushing out slightly better and better games before the next-gen had launched, but clearly this generation is hitting a plateu in terms of developer ideas and technical possibility (there are many examples of this from developer interviews from the past year). I'm perfectly happy with my Xbox as well, but I'm also going to be perfectly happy with the improvements seen with the Xbox 360. Bring it on!

Don't forget another big push of the XBox 360 -- games optimized for play on a large HDTV screen and format, something very few games do these days. Since I now have a 32 inch Sony widescreen HDTV, I'm salavating at the propect of seeing how good games in the next generation can look on it.

Thing is, I have a normal CRT television, 22", and these minor changes mean nothing to me.

I also have a decked out PC for gaming, I can get these type of graphics already.

As for a media center, I don't care about all that, nor do I care for online gaming. I'm all about solo gaming, just like I had on my NES, just like I have on my Gamecube.

I'll keep my eyes out for the Nintendo Revolution.

Definitely. I'm betting that HDTV will start to become standard during the lifespan of this next-gen, as will online-gaming. Two features which, not coincidently, are focal points of the 360 (and presumably the PS3 and Nintendo "Revolution").

I agree with you, but I think there is one thing that can be done. I think the only thing that video games could do is actually make the games (at least, the ones with people in them) actually look real. Because now, when you see a video game, you can tell right off the bat that its a game being played. I think the difference is that video games look to perfect that they don't look real.
For example, If they were to zoom in on a hot girls face in a video game, there would be no inperfection at all. But zooming in on a hot girls face in real life, you are going to see different things.
There are obvious differences that can be seen between people on TV and people on video games. Making them look similar seems to be the only thing that can be done.
However, none of it really matters to me because I hate new-era consoles.

These are also the very first games in an entirely new generation of consoles.

These DOA4 screen would be equivalent to the first screens of Virtua Fighter 3 for Dreamcast back in 1998. Though impressive in their day they can't really hold a candle to later generation releases like DOA2 on the DC. AND, the DC never really got to show its full potential as it was discontinued.

the graphics only look slightly better, but i will still be getting the 360 eventually. i don't really care a lot about graphics, but all the new games will come out for it.

    That controller looks horrid.

And for some reason the screenshots make me think of crappy FMV games..especially the first one with the guy yelling in the corner...

Wow, I am by no means a "graphics whore". But to say there is barely any difference is, well funny.

Look at the freaking level of detail in every aspect of all the SS, all I can say if the games look that good in real time. That in my eyes will be a HUGE jump in graphics... you say tomato I say tomahto I guess

    wow......they look like a....uhm.....videogame
to be honest: they look like slightly more detailed this-gen games(are the DOA4 pics from xbox360?They look no better than DOA3).
    I'm not impressed at all.
Some soon to be released PC games look ten times better already,oh well.
I say it again: it's far too early for a new gen of consoles.
This gen consoles(esp Gamecube and Xbox) have too much unused power....use it!

side-note: controller looks like some joke....this thingie can't be taken seriously....can it?
and why is the connector on the frontside of the controller and not on the backside, huh? Can you plug it on some sort of loading-station?

    Just use babelfish ( http://babelfish.altavista.com ). It does a reasonable job ->

The Japanese magazine Shônen Jump, one of the large specialists in RPG to the country of the raising sun, revealed of exclusiveness the first play in the studios founded by emblematic Hironobu Sakaguchi. Blue Dragon is announced already like one of the centre pieces of Xbox 360 in Japan.

For the design of Blue Dragon Hironobu Sakaguchi (creative of Final Fantasy) and Microsoft called upon a legend in Japan, very famous Akira Toriyama (Ball Dragon, Dragon Quest...).
Blue Dragon Microsoft takes into account to tame the Japanese players and also proves his will not to republish the errors of last with the design of typically Japanese plays. Blue Dragon will be doubtless presented at the time of E3 which will begin in about fifteen days... "

I always expected this next generation to be about the details. The graphics will certainly be better. One thing that hurts this new gen is the fact that console games still look good. DOA 3 is over 3 years old but still looks pretty.

The DOA 4 screenshots look nice but, are those wrinkles in the clothes textures or real wrinkles? I'm hoping they are done in real time. I hope i'm correct!

I saw the Xbox 360 thing tonight. My biggest problem is that they didn't show anything new. New games, old genres. That sucks. For now my money is safe in my pocket.

I have to say that SWAT 4 on PC looks better than anything MS showed on the MTV.

With all the HYPE since Jan I have to say I was really disappointed. But I will get the xbox 360 not at launch but at the first price drop.

Are you talking about the part where there's a little circle between the two oval-shaped things? I think that may be where you plug in the Live headset, but I don't know.

I think what the main difference will be with the next generation (besides the little details like better textures and shading) will be the support of higher resolutions. This generation of consoles is just not well equipped to handle HDTV resolutions, so few games support it because the frame rate would suffer too much. I can understand not caring if you don't have an HDTV or VGA display to take advantage of it, but those who do will definitely appreciate that every game will support 720p and/or higher.

DETAIL, maybe, yes. But if I am going to buy a new console, I want a major improvement, I want to be able to look at a screenshot and with one glance, be able to tell that it's for a new console, not have to get really close and look for the detail in the characters eyes.

    A quick timeline...

All major improvements, now let's compare DOA3 with DOA4...

Where's the difference? Oh, wait, you can see the door in the background a little clearer.

Don't get me wrong, I'll buy the system if the games are great, but as of now, I'm just seeing more of the same. I'm not a complete graphics whore, but they mean a lot to me when giving up 300.00+ of my hard earned money.

I totally agree with Cmosfm, I'm not impressed at all. Maybe its finnaly time for me to witdraw from modern gaming completely. I guess I'll get a 360 in 3 years when the 720 comes out.

I don't think you can make a fair comparison from static screenshots of pre-release games. We've been at the stage where people basically look like people since the beginning of this current generation. What will change is the general refinement in quality and quantity of what we see now. I would anticipate ultimately a difference which approximates the shift from the NES to the SNES, as opposed to the radical shift in perspetive from the SNES to the N64. Thus, let's wait until we see some video clips longer than 3 seconds before we call hogwash on this new technology.

I'm not calling hogwash, but even early early shots show us what the system can do. Honestly, do you really think were going to see a huge leap over the pictures that were already posted? more minor detail things, but nothing major, just minor details.

I'm waiting for the leap from this...

    to this...

I know, I'm being stubborn, but that's the only big leap that I can think of that's going to make me really jump out of my seat and go "WOW! I WILL BUY THIS ON LAUNCH DAY!"

I am gonna buy it mainly for the games coming- Quake 4, Perfect Dark, Gears of War, etc. Another reason would be for the online play, which will hopefully be available at Launch.
    RIP Bargora.
