Contra + Super C are definitely up there, as is Blades of Steel. I thought the original Ice Hockey wasn't too bad, either, but you couldn't throw off the gloves and fight The Turtles games were r0><0r, too.
I don't know about the Mario games for 2-player...they were great, but IMO 2-player works best when you have both people on the screen at once.
You are startled by a grim snarl. Before you, you see 1 Red dragon. Will your stalwart band choose to (F)ight or (R)un?
everybody's choices in this category are indeed worthy, but i'd definitely say that CONTRA is THE best nes 2-player game. and really- was the game even fun WITHOUT two players?
I would have to say that Contra is very fun without another player; I actually can't stand to play with someone else, though I've been playing that game ever since I can remember (first game I ever beat) and can pull a deathless run through it so that may be why I feel weird playing it with another person. If you can find someone who knows the game, then I'm sure it's a lot better; but sadly none of my friends have ever really played Contra or Super C and think I'm doing an insane gaming act by going through without dying...I try to tell them that it's nothing more than memory.
Anyway, I would have to put Contra and Super C on the top of my list as well as Double Dragon II.
Didn't see RC Pro-Am 2 mentioned anywhere, or Clu Clu Land.
I am shocked people have not mentioned MICRO MACHINES
and I am not sure but I dont think I have seen GOLF on the list .
Two games that for sure stand the test of time. Played two rounds of GOLF with my girlfriend last night.
Ice Hockey HAS to be on this list. To this day it's still one of the best hockey games of all time.
I second Cabal and Snake Rattle and roll.
I'll come up with something witty to put here eventually...
River City Ransom Wins Hands Down!
Tecmo Bowl is great for its historic value, but Tecmo Super Bowl to this day remains the greatest sports game ever made. The running game of Bo Jackson versus the Montana-Rice passing game is the most dynamic head-to-head match-up imaginable in a video game. Rumor has it that God himself had dreams of Bo zig-zaggin' along a TV screen, and forced the programmers to put it in the game. Tecmo Bowl is a nice piece, but it has to be replaced by Super Bowl.
Other notables: Spy vs. Spy is a fairly average 1-player game, but it's a lot of fun going head-to-head against another person. Same can be said for North & South. Super C is another, but the original Contra is already up there. And how about Smash TV? Sure, the NES couldn't handle a perfect port of the arcade game (one of the top 2-player arcade games ever), but it's close enough to retain most of the gameplay.
There are some greats on this list! I have not seen Spy Vs. Spy Though? Anyone hate it for some reason?
Opps! Just read PSXFerrari mention of Spy Vs.Spy! Than ks for the love!
I'm hoping by Guerrilla they mean Guerrilla Warfare. That game was amazing, I spent countless hours playing that one with friends. We even had little tournaments!
Heres my two-cents with two games:
Contra
Dr. Mario
Tecmo Super Bowl
Baseball Stars
Ikari Warriors
Contra
Dr Mario
Bubble Bobble
Double Dragon
Tecmo Bowl
Mario Bros
Clu Clu Land
Ice Hockey
All I could think of. This is a great site, got hooked, lots of great topics in the messageboards.
