Default How many different titles are out there for the 2600?

After i had posted the question asking if anyone could help me identify a list of Atari 2600 games, a guy called Slapdash asked me if I really owned all the games for the Atari 2600. I have in my possession some 2500 games which include titles of the same name form numerous companies. For example I own no less than 15 Enduros made by 15 different companies and it got me thinking. Just how many different titles of games are there available? I thought I had got them all before I stumbled onto some Brazillian sites to see new English titles of pirated games that I had never heard of and now I am wondering just how many are still out there to be found? Maybe I am asking a lot but here are two questions that I hope somebody can answer. Firstly who owns the most 2600 titles and secondly does anyone truly know how many different titles are listed for the 2600? :/

If you count pirated carts, then there are thousands.

If you just want to count individual game programs, then last I heard there's roughly 800(including games outside the US, and original pirates).

I too had heard that roughly there was 900 individual titles but as to the pirates how many possessed unique English titles? Added all together there has to be several thousand but to a collector like myself it is the individual titles that interest me. Thank you for your input.

to try to answer your questions i would say: if you have 2500 (different versions, label, company..ect) of them you are #1

as to how many games are there... i would guess 5000 more and more games keep popping up all over the world. no one will ever have an exact total..

are all your games boxed? you should post some pictures of your collection.

I would say out of the collection only 100 are boxed. I cannot be number 1 for I saw a site with one guy claiming he had 4000 2600 games. Do you really believe though that there are that many unique titles out there? If that is true I will be collecting until doomsday

WOW!! would love to see his collection!

in that 5000 i'm counting original games, pirates, homebrews/hacks. if you want to get into small label versions, IIRC someone said that combat has 9 label versions. that 5000 could be 15000 but i not into the small label versions so that amount could be way off who knows.... all depends on what you call "unique".

Jesus that is a lot of games. Thankfully though I am not interested in label variety as some collectors are. The hacks issue is a tricky one though for not many are available in cartridge form, or perhaps I am wrong. At the moment though I am just concentrating on finding the games already released in cartridge form. I have some hacks in cartridge form but as new ones get released every month I truly doubt that I will ever get them all in cartridge form.
