Removing ink from an NES cart? Any suggestions?

The Zelda II gold cart I got on ebay has ink on it, it wasn't shown in the picture > Some crumbcatcher named Jason wrote his name on the back in black ink, it's on the plastic but not on the label. What do you guys think is the best way to remove it without damaging the plastic? Thanks in advance!

I use a product called Sol-U-Mel. It can damage the plastic if you are careless, but normally will not. Only if you use too much and scrub hard. This stuff is so good though that you rarely have to scrub much at all. Great for ink, magic marker , and even taking off those very nasty security stickers that some rentals have on them.

I use Goo Gone. It's great and won't damage the plastic. I've never tried it on a gold cart though, so I'm not sure if it will affect the coloring or not. It's better at removing rental stickers and such than it is ink, but I can usually completely remove the ink from most carts with it, and if not, at least significantly lighten the ink.

If you can't get ink or something out of the back of the cartridge, you could always buy one of those security bits and switch backs with another game. That's just about the only thing all those sports games were good for. In the case of that Zelda, something tells me the gold finish might be destroyed if you use some of those cleaners. You'll have to let us know how that worked out for you.

I take it you can find this stuff anywhere? What about scraping or removing price stickers from carts (something the store that starts with a F is notorius for)?

I use a product called spray nine to get marker off of my games. I wouldn't use it on a coloured case though, it will take the paint right off... I found that out the hard way...

I also use goo gone. be carefull with that stuff. I spilt some on my carpet, and my room smelt like tangerines for a week.

Goo Gone kicks some bootay for sure. You have to be careful around the labels though, as it is a bit on the oily side, and has the potential to stain stickers. Most of the goo gone can be cleaned off of labels with rubbing alcohol, but there is usually some light discoloration left. That has been my experience.

How about Crayon. local thrifts use this crayon type pencil that i cannot get out with goo-gone or alcohol.

I find that Armor All Auto Glass Cleaner works really well (and so far even if it is spilt on the label it doesn't damage it) although it will take some Q-tip scruben to get it off!

GOO-GONE is great, but it can really mess up labels, so be very careful, could even use the type of masking tape painters use to tape off areas so it would protect but not rip up the label. If the label has a rip anywhere in the gloss, it will discolor it for sure. it wont be as noticeable when it drys, but you will always know it is there. If it is sticker residue, just apply some goo gone to your hand the rub it over the area, you usually have to let it set to remove marker. Also, on the gold cart, it may remove some of the gold coloring, so I would be extra careful, or just get another gold zelda and switch out the backs, lol.
