    Default A Look at Namco's Sales 2004

Magicbox listed Namco's sales for 2004. Some interesting things to note. Look at the difference between the titles and the countries. (I'm not going to steal all of their info)

Here's what really interests me: Namco's top sellers in North America:
    Namco Museum (GBA) - 1,700,000
    PacMan Collection (GBA) - 1,301,000
    Namco Museum (Multi) - 815,000

I can't believe that those three titles were so big for them. That doesn't even include the other three Pacman titles in the list! Retro gaming still sells.

It's also evident that Japan's big sales still go to the RPG titles more than anything else.

I can't believe Soul Caliber 2 only sold 660,00 copies being on all three systems.
Systems owned: 2600, 5200, Lynx, Jaguar w/CD, Commodore 64, NES, SNES, N64 w/DrV64, Gamecube, GB, GBA SP, Game.com, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Turbo Grafx 16, Game Gear, Master System, Genesis w/32X and CD, JVC X'Eye, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation, Playstation 2, Playstation 3, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, Wii.

It also shows how quickly games drop off the sales charts in Japan.

We still have Ace Combat 4 on ours....that came out in Japan in 2001. Soul Caliber 2, Tekken 4, all long since off the Japanese charts.

I can't believe they sold 1.7 million copies of Namco museum for GBA....that's bonkers.

There are a couple of factors that drive the Pac Man Collection & Namco Museum numbers through the roof. For one, they're quality budget titles ($14.99 MSRP and frequently on sale for $9.99) but they're also bundled with systems frequently. Target, Toys R Us, Best Buy & KB Toys all included one of the two with systems last year at various times.

I like how in North America at least, multiplatform titles are high on the list. Maybe they would sell more games if they would make more of their titles for more than one system.

Allsport11, SC2 was released in August of 2003. The sales figures are for 2004.

It's kind of sad that the only Namco games Americans seem to care about are the same old compilations that they keep shitting out over and over. I mean, it's great that people have appreciation for the classics, but Namco is STILL a great developer and publisher, even in this day and age, and their new franchises deserve more attention and sales. I can sort of liken it to how I feel about the PlayStation Namco Museum series: It angers me how the two that were re-released and are really common and cheap have all the games that have been released on a million different systems already like Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, etc., while the volumes containing the EVEN BETTER yet more obscure classics like Mappy and Dragon Spirit are expensive and hard to find.

with the recent retro trend coming back in style, many kids are buying the older games becuase hot topic is trying to bring them back into style. Now I'm not saying hot topic is the reason for the game selling 1.7 million, its just now there are ALOT more promotions and new products driving up sales of retro gaming. Did you see the prices NES systems sell for on ebay now? $40 just for the system and mario bros.
