Default how much real interest do u have in upgrading to PS3,Xbox360

How enthusiastic are you really in buying yet ANOTHER next-gen console? be it PS3, Xbox360, or Revolution?
Ive been gaming for over 30 years and this is the first time in my life that Im not very interested in what the next generation of home consoles might bring. Im sure the graphics will look better (but how much better) and to me the most interesting aspect will be the advanced AL that these new systems will offer but other than that Im not convinced that I need to upgrade from my current PS2 and Xbox.
I have always looked forward to what the next-gen of systems might offer mostly because there were always large jumps in the graphics department enough so that no matter how much you may have loved your NES you knew the Genesis or Super nes was a must buy in order to be a happy gamer.
I think the old pattern of newer is always better may no longer apply (at least to a certain extent) for the simple fact that so much can be done to manipulate any of todays systems and make then perform tasks that were thought impossible when they were first introduced of course this is nothing new just look at what some of the best 3rd party publishers were able to accomplish at the end of many a game systems life i.e. the SuperNES.
I just believe this to be even more true of todays systems with any of the current 3 be it PS2, Xbox or Gamecube.
So what that means is that we may not see the true potential of any of these systems long after (if ever) the release of PS3 or Xbox2.
Of course it all depends on us THE GAMERS to decide how long a system lives and when it "dies".
The majority of us suffered through the premature killing of the Dreamcast and all the potential that it possessed.

Every time a new hardware "generation" comes around, there are fewer adopters - especially early adopters. Of course, the fact that they keep going up and up in price doesn't help matters much, either.

I don't think this console jump is gonna be big, which is why I'm not excited. put in a PSX game and a PS2 game and you KNOW which is the PS1 and which is the PS2 game. I'm not convinced it will be the same with the new systems...

I'm not interested at all. I've decided to cut way back this year as far as game purchases and the worst thing about having a new system is it pretty much forces you to buy a lot of games. Who wants to have a new console but only 1 or 2 games to play on it? I'm perfectly happy with what I have now and won't be buying any new system.

A little excited I guess. On one hand, a New Nintendo system means more Mario... On the other hand the Rumors of Multiple versions of "Xbox 2" ... x_x

I'll probably do as I have always done (with the exception of GBA) buy a system a year after launch when it has a strong enough library.

voted for "wait and see" BUT I do care about graphics in the next generation as The more realistic this generation tries to get (with the exception of the I-can't-believe-what-I'm-seeing-feeling of some PC games and the still Realistic but retaining that Cartoony style feel of Nintendo and my new favorite Team Ninja and of course Conker) the worse games tend to look (Halo 2... )

Personally, I think it's a ittle too early for this thread. The consoles haven't even been given a public showing yet, so saying the new graphics aren't exciting is a little premature wouldn't you think? Especially after seeing EA's concept art for the next Generation, which, like with every generation, looks more real than ever.

We have no real idea of the Game lineups, the capabilities, the ideas or the Development style that will be possible with the new hardware. We don't even know if they are going to black, or have controllers instead of visual recognition technology. To be honest, we don't even know if it's going to be called Xbox2, Playstation 3, or the Revolution.

All we know is that it's another generation of consoles. So yeah, most of us shouldn't be excited yet because we haven't seen anything that hasn't been seen before. When the screenshots come, the larger open-source idea come out, The puzzle games that can be so graphically charged and 8 levels of deepness arrive, then we'll start getting excited.

But not just becaue it's another hardware launch./

Wait and see. As of now, there really isn't much to know about the next-gen systems.

    why wait?

we will always fall on the same 'Y is better than Z" and then the fanboyism and stuff.

I'm ok with 3 companys going at it, but like it has been said, how much better can it be?

as with all gaming systems I've bought over the years, I can wait for the price drop - on the system and games. I love waiting about 6 months for games to drop from $50 to around $20. Saves me money, and the game is just as good then as it would be now - only cheaper.

Seriously. Unless you have an HDTV I don't see how it's possible for games to get THAT much better graphically.

I'll probably wait a couple years. I always enjoy a systems twilight much more than a launch. There are a ton of games and they can be had on the cheap.

I'm at the point where I'm starting to stop caring about getting most things when they come out. I'm so behind on games for current and obsolete systems that I don't really care if new systems come out or not. What I'll probably do is buy the games I want for the new systems, then when I get around to getting the hardware when it's cheaper, I'll have stuff to play on it ready to go. Much cheaper.

I'm interested to see what kind of power they'll have and what developers will do with it, but I've already made the decision not to buy any of the new next gen consoles untill they hit $100.

    Same as always for me.

I'm driven by Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo games. Once those two franchises make an appearance on Sony's next console...I'm buying.

Same with Zelda. Only Zelda will make me buy another Nintendo console. They've gotten incredibly boring lately. My N64s give me the warm n' fuzzies. Both of my Cubes give me the "meh"s.

I really truly actually DID buy an XboX just because Shenmue 2 was appearing on it and I HAD to play it. No lie. That game was THE reason. Whatever Shenmue 3 appears on has my cash as well.

first of all, i'm a nintendo fanboy, so here i go:

Sony has the faultiest consoles of all times, i have never stumbled upon a ps2 that hasn't started doing soemthing funny, while my gc and n64 are still running great. Hell, the dreamcast that i got at launch is still running great, it ain't like it's all that different.

I didnt pick up a PS2 when it launched because I had my PS and N64 working full time. I got my PS2 about 6 omnths after it launched and was very happy getting it at the full price. I got my Cube, Xbox, GBA, GBAsp, and DS within a week of the systems launch (Cube, GBA,GBAsp at launch). Ill most likely get the new ones at launch as well. If its something I feel I want or need, I'll spend my money on it.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

You know what I'd like to see for once? Games that actually push the hardware. It's a shame that even though the Xbox is capable of 720p/1080i, we've seen shamefully few games take advantage of those graphical possiblities. It's also a shame that some of the ones that do aren't all that good as examples (Tony Hawk's Underground, Atari Anniversary, Enter the Matrix, etc.). I'd like to see what developers could accomplish on current platforms in the next 5 years. Unfortunately what I want and the way the market steamrolls on are two different paths. I imagine there's enough juice left in the Xbox alone to keep it going for many years to come, the Gamecube too (although disc space and lack of true HD support will stunt the graphics). And the ps2, well, if they haven't tapped that out yet it's because they're lazy.

Not really interested, I am still having fun with my PS2,Xbox.

However if the power of the new systems is actually used for more then just graphics(well of course having nice graphics is just icing on an already great cake), Then I will buy one or maybe both.

If the new Xbox has a HD and his running a system close to what Xbox Media Center Is today then it will be mine on release.

It's not necessarily the games that interest me (as not thta many have been announced anyway) but more the technology. I am still looking for this all-in-one box for games/music/DVR.

The next round of consoles cant come quick enough for me. GC pretty much sucks to me...N64 was a more enjoyable...and I just want a change from this 3D crap. I hope Nintendo Revolution has some gyro technollogy or virtual reality....I just want a big change.

The only upgrading I am doing is PSP. I am drooling over the hi-tech-ness of it all. Problems aside, I'm sure I will be very pleased. I even preordered it, going against my policy of not buying release date hardware. I want Lumines very badly. If it isn't a launch title here in the US, I will be importing it.

As for XBox 2, PS3 & Revolution, I need to see some killer apps followed by price drops. I agree with Satoru Iwata's idea that an upgrade in graphics is not what the industry needs. Unfortunately, we are in the minority.
