    Default dreamcast collecting bug strikes

strange how these things work, i've owned a dreamcast since launch and i've actually spent a good chunk of time playing it but i never considered my self a "collector" before tuesday. i always saw dreamcast games as too new and too close to current games to have any collecting appeal for me. of course since its a dead system it was only a matter of time before it got on my list, and just like that i'm off to the races.

i was browsing thru a local thrift when i found a few DC games amongst the PC wares, normally i can pass on these but then i saw "record of lodoss war". i had a hunch that was a little uncommon so i grabbed it. you have to go over $10 to use a bank card at this store so gauntlet legends and NFL2k1 came along for the ride. once i got the games home and filed them into my 40 some titles the bug bit, i now know i'm on the path to getting ALL dreamcast games.

sure enough today i took pity on that $4 shenmue at the record store, how could i have gone so long without it...ohh boy this is gonna be a long haul but at least i've opened up a new avenue of "finds" to get my fix from. now i wonder how long before the playstation bug strikes?

The same sort of thing struck me over the summer, when, with the addition of Gamecube #2 to my collection, I got "the bug". At the beginning of the summer, I had less than 30 Gamecube games, yet, now, I have more than 70

I got the Dreamcast bug when I found Midway Arcade Hits Vol. 2 complete at Game Crazy. Went back the next week and picked up Resident Evil 2 complete, found Tee Off Golf weeks later...There's so many great games for the system, a lot of which can be had for pretty cheap now (Sonic Adventure, NFL 2K1, Chu Chu Rocket, Crazy Taxi, Jet Grind Radio, Virtua Tennis)

yea, missus loves it and she plays it at least once a day...

Ahh yes the DC bug bit me a while back too, it really started when I found Sonic LE CD only, then a month later I found the case and manual for it. I'm up to about 170 I think so I still have a ways to go.

I picked one up again this fall. Glad to have it back. I bought nearly 30 games for it within the first week. After pigging out on it for about 3 weeks I've toned down again. I don't want it to wear out even though it has a new drive and ports in it. The things are hard to get in my area.

    Funny about non-collecting systems. I seem to have bought 50 PS2 games.....even though I don't collect it.

Wait till you get obsessed with it like me! My case is serious! I am a terminal DreamCast addict...

A few others on DP can also claim the same too!

Once it has you, there is no escaping it... You'll want them all - Even the crap ones! Your whole life will centre around getting Dreamy games!

You know it's gonna cost you - So you had better have deep pockets...

its a nasty bug indeed. Now finding a case and manual for my sonic LE is going to drive me mad, other then that the system is easy to collect for.

luckily for my wallet i'm the sort of collector who thinks getting there is most of the fun. as long as i'm enjoying the challenge of getting to completion piece by piece the final game doesnt drive me crazy. i enjoy hunting games in the "wild", i have 30 some active system collections going right now so one more just adds to the chances of making a find. i swore off ebay a long time ago so its gonna be trades and finds for me.

the way i see it right now is a great time to be collecting for the DC (although a few years ago might have been ideal) because i dont see any local places asking high prices for the games. the only bug-a-boo is that i hate collecting CD case games, i've already seen my fair share of caseless, manual less or mis-cased DC games. guess i'll need to start an orphen shoebox for the DC like i have for the genny.

I got the same DC collectiong spree bug about 2 months ago. Unfortunately, I never owned a DC until 2 months ago. I wish I bought one for $50 bucks back when they had just become discontinued. In my area, finding complete DC games is somewhat difficult. All the stores I've been to that carry DC games have a very small collection of them. Also, most are incomplete, being just the disk in a common jewel case or are complete but the case is cracked to hell. Also, some places are way too steep with prices. One EB I visited was asking $20 for Marvel vs. Capcom and Capcom vs. SNK and they weren't even complete! A local GameCrazy does the same thing too! $30 for Bangi-O and it's just the disk in a common jewel and what makes me even more angry is that it was a Hollywood rental game so it has that ugly Hollywood logo stamped over the Dreamcast title

Unless you get some Dreamcast addiction therapy right away, I'm afraid this bug won't go away, I got infected with this bug since 2000 when my store cleared out DC games as early as 1999 and it was so contagious. Today, I have almost every sealed US games (4 more to go), is this the end? No! I want doubles (new copies that aren't perfect such as cracked cases, ripped seal), more doubles to play, if I end up getting a game in unexpectedly prestine condition that I plan to play, I refuse to open it and put it on half.com for high prices to finance more purchase.

I wonder if this will ever end as I'm already looking into Japanese/Euro games not available in US, ouch! This bug started when I get so spoiled with incredibly low prices on new DC games when stores cleared them out. Had Dreamcast been successful in US, I probably wouldn't be collecting complete set, imagine all the EA junks you'll have to buy to complete the collection.

For those wanting to complete or simply amass the collection with good games, my advise is getting those games NOW before they become very expensive, for Euro gamers some of those are pretty cheap though, such as Cannon Spike

I was on the Dreamcast collecting binge from day one, and completed the collection shortly after the last game was released. That was a few years ago when I was only collecting the US releases. Now I've got piles and piles of Europe and Japan titles... I still love this system and play it every week.

Have fun collecting for it, it's well worth it. The DC has one of the best overall quality libraries in gaming history.

Thje Dreamcast is a great system, from a collectors and gameplay perspective alike.

I'm not systematically collecting, but I got my Dreamcast two years ago when we had a garage sale in our neighborhood; a 14 year old in our street sold his DC, and I bought it; now I have 'only' 30 games for the system and all of the games are worthwhile playing. The library is great, and with around 300 releases a great system to collect for.

Great schmups, great racers, great unusual and innovative games, great sports titles, good adventure games, and some great RPGs as well. The system has 'character.' From all the dead systems it is the one I play the most....and with one of the converter discs it is really simple to play import games. A year ago I picked up Shenmue 2 and Bangai-O from a bargain bin in a German game store.

Wait, I thought a) the U.S. release had the Ricki Martin songs altered/removed but was basically the same as the JP version b) Samba Ver.2000 has nearly double the number of songs as Samba USA.
