Default Gamecube Hacked for DVR and Mini-DVR

Supposedly with the new mod-chip and a new bios file , you can boot games and isos off a mini-dvd or a DVD-R (with the top off of the Gamecube)

    Interesting....

I read about this too. You will need an original game to load then switch so it isn't a direct boot yet. This is good news for homebrew developers but it sure took them long enough to get a real chip for the cube. Kudos to Nintendo for the security measures they took against this sort of thing. If it wasn't for Sega this would be the first time someone had hacked the cube. I am referring to the Phantasy Star exploit.

Here you go this explains it alot better than I could. Link might not be allowed so mods please edit if need be. If the link is removed just google for Phantasy Star Exploit.
This link concerns using linux but it is the same type for running backups as well.

The PSO exploit is interesting on a technical level but not very practical or playable if you're just wanting to pirate games. I tried a couple of downloaded ISO's just to see what all the hooplah was about, and they were all pretty unplayable, especially anything with music, fmv, or cut scenes.

The Gamecube launched in 2001 and made it three full years, that's pretty dang good.

Finally. I still have to wait until direct boot for imports is confirmed.

Well I saw a video last night and ... the mod chip works. In the NFO of the new BIOS, it says all kinds of things like "doesn't always work" and "works sometimes" and "if it doesn't work, try it again" so this is still very buggy, but it does work. The biggest problem I've seen at the moment is that no one can get the mini-DVD-Rs to work consistantly. By removing the case of the gamecube, they're all getting regular sized DVD-Rs to work however. Who knows if this is because of the media or the chip or what at this point.

I have seen one website selling the chips with the new BIOS on them for $69, but another site sells a chip with a different BIOS (the one used for linux and homebrew apps) for $10-$20, so I see the reliability going up and the price going down very quickly.

I can almost guarantee that this is BS... the chip as far as I can tell is just someone that stole all the work by tmbinc on his IPL replacement and is now selling it as a commercial chip. I wouldn't believe a word I see posted on maxconsole (actually, I'd use that to be sure that it's BS).

Well considering that they were the first to post the PSO hack I'd place more confidence in them than You ....

Please think before posting around here...

Oh and thanks for your "almost guarantee" x_x

Hmm..interesting. They've been pirating gamecube games for a while I've noticed....was it previously possible to play burned games on it? Anyhow, I don't really find this too great as all the gamecube games I've bought were more than worth the money I paid for them. Great games. Well...maybe not Godzilla.

Alot of people will shout at me for this but, everyone knows how easy it is to mod an Xbox or a PS2, i'm sure these same people know that for now at least, there is no real mod to copy GC games and run them like you would an xbox ripped title. So you bascially have to buy the original GC games. I can imagine this will scare off alot of gamers!

I know there is also the whole issue, of ninty's (on and off again) relationships with other video game companies. This is the main problem for the GC.

Thats the whole point of this thread.

There IS a way to mod the Gamecube abd burn GC games to DVD and play them on your Gamecube.

Does anyone actually read the whole thread and the links before posting....

Yeah but from what i can gather reading through that, it's not perfected like the xbox and ps2 system of running ripped games on a modded system. Since it would be everywhere by now.

And if it is all up and running, i say good job ninty at least the GC held up for over 3 years, how long did the Box and the ps2 take before they hit there knee's quicker than a nun at sunday mass!..

It's the weekend and more importantly it's nearly christmas, take it easy fella!

It's not perfected like the Xbox and PS2 because it's been out for less than a week. That's also the reason it's not everywhere yet.

From what I've seen and now heard, it does play most games on DVD-R. It does require a swap, but I'm guessing once they get the kinks ironed out, it won't.

Well it's probably been around alot more than a week flack, i can imagine a bunch of people (maybe just one fella?) have been workin on this for along time, and have now decided to release it. But i understand what you ment flack

It's funny that when people start a thread, and other people make a remark about the subject (If it's not to there liking) they shit a brick!.. Take it easy!

I can't say it bothers me, if i like a game enough i'll always buy the original.. and thats for any (xbox, ps2 or GC) system.

In the UK the GC american games are dirt cheap anyways, so i'll just carry on buying the real games.

I don't think anyone has 'shit a brick', but it does make it difficult to have a conversation when people continually respond in threads that they're obviously not reading.

My point was that the mod isn't perfected and has a while to go (if ever) of being as well done as both the Xbox and PS2 mods.

This is what i was talkin about the DVD-R media problems, also the mod/hack so far doesn't work for double disc games (Medal of Honour, Resident evil etc) I have been reading.. :P If it does work in the end then great for all you hackers and pirates. Doesn't really bother me!
