Default [DC] Power Stone 2 Advice Needed

Every few months (whenever there's a baby or bridal shower) the male siblings and in-laws get together for Power Stone 2 tournaments (4 players at once, always the desert level). We're between the ages of 18 and 33. We play for one hour to aclimate ourselves to the game and then start the tournament. We each throw in 20$ and at the end of the tournament the winner takes it all home (usually about $120 which ain't to shabby).

My favorite character is Wang Tang - we always stick to the same characters. Problem is I get slaughtered EVERY TIME! It seems like I'm kicking butt but I almost always get beat down hard. I think Wang just takes way to much damage when hit. His specials look good but don't do enough damage. I'm thinking I need to change characters. What's more embarrassing is I own the Dreamcast and the game. I can't be Falcon, Gunrock, Accel, Ryoma or Galluda as they'te all taken. I don't want to be Pride as he's too similar to Falcon. Can anyone reccommend a new character for me?

I've completed the game with all characters several times over so I'm no novice...but like I said...as Wang Tang I keep coming in dead last...maybe I just suck....

FYI - Falcon and Galuda are usually the grand champs with Accel coming in a close third however based on our scoring of win/losses Ryoma consistently comes in first.

    Thx,

    E

Are you playing with the full 7 stones? If you are, go with Ayane. Get the stones, get in the air, and do her special where she throws a whole bunch of shuriken out in all directions (the one that homes in on people). If you do it twice in a row, it'll generally stun the other guys long enough for her to run around, grab all the stones again, and do it again(provided you can find a 3rd stone).
Gourmand is another good choice. His air butt stomp is awesome, he's got insane range on his attacks, and he can throw stuff really far. Plus his transformed version is a beast-jumping fire spit is nice, and the stew....oh, the stew. The stew rocks hard as a last move to do before you change back.
You may also want to consider Rouge. Her transformed version is also pretty strong, since she has a move good for clearly people out, the yoga fire, and what I call sinistar, with the giant fire breathing head. Her normal version is pretty good too, and she's got one hell of a vertical leap.

If you need any more help, let me know. My buddies and I used to play this game for hours every weekend, so I know it pretty well.

    Practice, Grasshopper.

You should be able to win with any character, regardless of who your opponents are.

Especially when it's Wang Tang vs Galuda. Galuda is no match for WT's speed.

Thanks for the tips! Not sure how many Stones we have the game set to (it's left at the default) - may need to make it 7 to add some fireworks.

I've been considering a switch to Ayane or Gourmand. I'll play around and see who I like better. Gourmand is always good for a few laughs from the gang!

Did you guys ever play this game torunament style for cash? It's hilarious...as soon as money is involved it increases the tension 100%...loads of fun.

Yeah, I know...thing is is I've played the hell out fo the game as Wang-Tang and can beat it with my eyes closed. Playing it against real people 4-way is wayyyy more difficult. Unfortunatly the only opportunity I have to play against these guys is when we get together (infrequently)

That's awesome. I wish my family could do something like this. Unfortunately, no one in my family knows what a Dreamcast is, and they all pretty much suck at video games

I'm best with Falcon, so I could tell you about him, but since he's already taken, I might as well not.

Well, we had another of our family Power Stone 2 tournament get-togethers yesterday. There was seven participants ages ranging from 18 to 34 - each person put down $20 which means the total winnings were$140!!!. The tournament lasted around 3 hrs. Characters were Falcon, Galuda, Ayane, Accel, Gunrock, Pride & Ryoma. You would not have believed the adrenaline (or the amount of swearing) in the room. I ended up being victorious which is a complete turnaround from our last tournament where I came in last place with Wang Tang. Thanks for the Ayane suggestion. Final four was Ayane, Falcon, Galuda and Accel. If you have a Dreamcast and have never played 4-way Powerstone 2 I suggest you get this game...it's pretty amazing.

Our next family event is in January - everyone will be gunning for me...due in part to my winning the tourney and the ammount of trash I've been talking.

yeah man, even though everyone has there fav fighter in any game, you should be able to win with anyone...strategy, is the key, sometimes being in the midst of the action isnt always the best place, if the other 3 are beating each other down, collect stones and use ure special or chuck items and when they seperate take them on one at a time if you can.....when i play it depends on who im playing with, everyone has there own style, some just run and and jam buttons beating anything in site, other sit to the side and toss stuff around...
